That's what Pfanner refer to as VSS, Vario Support System, in their words

"The VSS (Vario Support System) in the heel provides extreme stability for the foot and ankle and special grip on steep slopes"

So......... make of that what you will

These are the ankle supports, part of the Vario Support System that is unique to the Matterhorn Boots. When inserted in the boots, the supports strengthen the ankle area, helping prevent ankle injuries. Ideal for when working on steep terrain. The supports can be removed when climbing, driving, walking on even ground to allow more flexibility in the ankle.

Took mine out straight away. No way you can drive in them even in a Landy !

Had them 6 months or so very comfy and dry but not as hard wearing as my previous GTX boots. Rubber on front already peeling off but not too worried comfort and fit is excellent.

Cheers

James.

I know it might be too early to tell, but, Are they worth the 300 quid?

They were stiff the first day I was up and down a bank all day not the best in stiff boots but this 4th day and they feel good £275 am not sure we will see if they last all I want is some boots that last longer than 12months and don't make my feet sweat like mad
