Had a phone call a few years ago from a "British aerospace engineer" asking me visit his workshop as he had a problem with a motorbike he was fixing for someone and had been told I was handy with such things.

 

Turned up and was shown pictures of him and his team standing beside a gold plaque fitted to the spy plane they had been built, I asked what this problem was he was having ??

 

Couldn't figure out how to change piston rings on a moped !!!

I'm surprised about that as the aero guys I came across were normally top of the tree. Now if it was Plymouth then I would expect that. There used to be a lot of "come along mate I'll get you a job here"

I don't think I need to tell you where the dead wood came from but they were all from the engineering side of a MOD service.

Maybe the same at other facilities as well then.
