Willow cuttings wanted Somerset

Hi all

New to the forum, having a read and finding some really great information.

I am a HETAS registered and biomass boiler installer in Somerset and have a smallholding. We have around 5 acres and would like to plant a few hundred Willow plants for pollarding and harvesting for logs on a 5-6 year rotation.

Therefore I'm asking of anyone has or will have this winter, willow cuttings from a pollard job that I can collect rather than sticking them through the chipper.

Many Thanks

Chris

I'm bound to have plenty but a bit far away to make it economical, especially when you live in one of the premium willow growing areas. You might be better off buying a few of a recognised biomass species and propagating them yourself rather than just planting any old thing.

You really should select the best willow for what you want (as said), just planting random types could be a complete waste of time.

The right one will be many times better than non specific types. We grew quite a few different ones some years back, the differences between them was unbelievable.

Having said that, standard crack willow will produce log size stuff very quick.

I thought growing crack was illegal. ....probably quite profitable though.
