poly steel rope

I have poly steel - 18mm I think, mainly used in a 5:1 block. It has pulled massive bits of timber - particularly when attached to the back of a tractor. Its very stiff though, hard to make small knots - but I can get a double fishermans in as a stopper at the block tie-off.

I think mine is strength rated at 10T and by the way it performs I am inclined to believe this is true. I wouldn't shock load it though. The supplier (cant remember the company right now) told me the rope was originally made for use as the rope to make trawler nets from, so repeatedly being dragged on the bottom of the ocean - it has to be quite tough.

Worth it IMO.

Hi all

Just wondering if any use poly steel rope. I'm looking for a cheap to use a pulling line. This rope is very cheap but is it a strong as they claim.

Many thanks in advance

Tree

I use it a fair bit and it's been good for us to be honest.

I have some big 44mm for recovery use, and for simple rough work where we would want to pull a windblow with a 20 Tonne Excavator and the like.

This has had so much hammer it's untrue, and really is incredible for the cost.

I bought some 20mm and that hasn't proved to be as strong as it's rating may suggest?

This was bought to simply pull down windblow or hung up with the Tracked Dumper when required, and was specced at 20mmm to suit a large snatch block for redirecting.

Depending on your application just go as big as you can sensibly handle, and it should be a good buy?

Eddie.

I've seen the polysteel 16mmx50m on ebay for £50 which is cheap,

I've also seen the marrlow 3 strand(which is polysteel I think) for about the same price.

But than I could get the Sirius bull rope for £100, not sure which is the better rope.

I have 2 large ash trees to fell, the are straight forward, but I wanted to have a pull rope to give bit of extra assistance if needed.

can you tie a bow line into the poly steel easy enough?
