Mineral 2-Stroke or Synthetic?

I blend oil so I really should know the answer to this question. But what are the advantages to semi and fully synthetic 2-stroke over mineral oil. We still have a large percentage of our customer base still using mineral and having no problems with it.

So what do you guys use and why?

I think lubricating oils should be one base or the other; mineral or full synth.

Mixing the two is to my mind marketing crap, not technical advantage as the two types have differing properties. 70% mineral to 30% synth (group 3&4 basestock 99% of the time too), why bother?

I think all my pet hates are coming out on arbtalk tonight lol

Sorry in answer to your question; thermal stability and less polymeric thickeners with acidify are the advantage of synths for starters.

It's obvious what I use (below); stubby does too I think.

I agree in some respects. We sell semi because that seems to be the popular choice, but to call an oil semi synthetic there is no pre determined minimum percentages of synthetic base oil that goes in them.

I am going over to fully synthetic, I did have a chat with the technician at Honey Brothers about oil when I bought my 560, I asked for Stihl HP ultra, but they did not stock it.

I ended up with HP Super which I knew was semi synthetic, he told me it was fully synthetic and even showed me in a Stihl catalogue that it was full synthetic. There is confusion in the 2 stroke world if Stihl publish conflicting information.

I will be using Husqvarna XP Synthetic, might help with warranty issues.

I would think that fully synthetic and premium pump gas (lower ethanol), or expensive Aspen must be the way to go with the new super saws.
