Hi Gary

Im one of the trainers for the NPTC certificate, and would reccoemnd you have a lok at the following

http://www.nptc.org.uk/assets/documents/7b83377c1ec6469198a9fac7198ef276.pdf

thats the learner sheduel, look through and make sure you meet all the pre requisites.

If you do there is a book as part of the cource but there is a wide range of differant sources for info.

you will learn some basic rules and regs, you should also recive a copy of the LOLER ACOP which you can down load at the HSE web site

Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) - Work equipment and machinery

other great sources of info are some of the manufactures web sites, I particully like the DMM web site and the Yale, and Samson sites

follow their links for tchnical info and look at the goodies

Technical Bulletins

Climber's Line | Custom Climbing Rope | Yale Cordage | Yale Cordage

If you visit the Stign web site thay have a range of infomation on their gear.

The thing about LOLER is its knowing the gear, knowing the Specs, Knowing How it will be used and understanding that its about passing a defined standard, not your standard.

hope all that helps
