Re: Deer carving

The tail isn't right. It starts too far up the spine. What species is it supposed to be? Head looks a bit like a Roe, but they don't even have tails. Nice work, but I'd say ditch the tail and just have a rounded back end.

Re: Deer carving

Hi carving of the deer is brilliant, as for the tail not quite right in my opinion, how ever if you used google search and put say Roe Doe ? You may get some rear photos of the deer. If not let me know I have somewhere a book on Roe Deer.

Re: Deer carving

I should reference photos more often and not just do it from ma head, think you know what something looks like till you make one.

Re: Deer carving

When I can carve that well I will be a happy bunny, but, the tail is adult sized on a baby fawn, and, although there are excellent reasons to carve them this way, the ears flat back make it look scared when ears forwards look cute and cudly

Deer carving

Thanks for the comments all.
What species is it? When i can carve animals and you can tell what species it is from a carving, that's when you're a master. I unfortunately am not, I'm just happy it looks something like a deer.
