  1. We have owned it for 4 years and not cut it back at all. Ironically, the previous owner was a tree surgeon. The tree is too high to really pick anything. They are firm pears and so often good even after the fall.
  2. The vertical ones at the top I assume you mean. Is that all you would suggest cutting back?
  3. Hi, does this pear tree need cutting back a bit or should it be left alone? (it’s just in front of the shed bottom right, so I guess about 10 meters tall)
  4. I managed to get a little from FB, but going to need more and a regular source if I’m going to invest into it. The plan is to get a large log burner installed in the centre of the house. Burning through out winter. this will cost far too much if I’m to by the logs. So need to do some of the chopping and seasoning myself, and I’m happy to, it’s just getting that supply.
  5. That’s the bark (other half of the log) laying above them 2.
  6. All good tips for next time. I don’t think I got any willow or conifer.
  7. Thanks, appreciate the tips. I was able to pick and I tried going for the heavier ones. The seller helped load too, so they picked some but seemed helpful and not trying to get rid of the rubbish. There is some cherry, least I believe it to be. I have a cherry tree and it looks similar. Only the one birch, not my pick but it feels pretty solid. The eucalyptus has already given the back a once over 😂 May go for round 2 tomorrow. Im thinking the long pale log on top may be acer.
  8. You can see what I collected in other pictures. There isn’t much for free in life, especially around London. I got a car load (see images) for £20.
  9. while I do smoke my own meat, I’d only use wood that I’m 100% happy with the origin.
  10. Only 2 different types of logs there. thanks for the ID. It’s a beautiful golden colour
  11. Chopped a couple up, looked the same outside, very different inside!
  12. So I picked up some of the logs…. what have we here? Birch. Cherry. Eucalyptus. Poplar. anything else spotted? no idea what the light straight one is on top.
  13. Thanks. I’ll try and grab some then. Think he has silver birch too, but even I can identify that 😂
  14. The council were clearing the bottom 2 today. Top one was given to me a year ago by a neighbour who was moving.
  15. Seems like my best shot. The wilted leaves start by going a frosty white, then they wilt and dry out until they are dead. Only takes a couple of days I think.
  16. quite like that idea, not sure how well it would work. i assume it all goes to the local refuse site, that’s a complicated place now.
  17. So I need to find some ladybirds
  18. Images added @peds @Stere
