  1. Needed to hear that like a hole in the head as I picked up a load of it the other week and have cut it up and split it ... I'll be bringing it back to myself next season asking for a refund if it's still wet
  2. Must admit that was exactly what I thought ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚
  3. Really ?? ...... So did he buy it from the person who only sells properly seasoned hardwood that's kept under cover and can charge a premium because of the quality. Re read what I wrote ..... "sounds like" .... it's just flagging a possibility.
  4. Don't mean to be harsh but those readings sound like you've bought from the cheapest guy around .... who's probably not the person to buy from and it's probably not seasoned properly. You've not had your new burner installed that long, find a decent seller, buy some more from them (properly seasoned) and enjoy it with the rest of the cold season which will only be a few more weeks, you've not lost money as the others will be seasoned for next year.
  5. Yes have seen videos on felling against the lean as well and it's quite staggering the force it exerts in the direction it wants to go which may be totally underestimated by people thinking they can pull it in the direction they want with a rope ๐Ÿคฃ
  6. One last question, if the leaners on flat ground do you do the bore / back cut so it's parallel to the ground or do you do it at the angle of the tree so the cut will be at an angle to the ground? Just for clarity the leans in the intended direction of fall. EDIT: I think I've answered my own question with this diagram I found which infers angled back cuts could cause the tree to go over backwards raher than the intended direction of fall? felling+leaning+trees+diagram - Recherche Google WWW.GOOGLE.COM
  7. That is a good example ๐Ÿ‘ ... ad a much bigger tooth than I would have imagined so really helpful!
  8. If you do the letterbox, do you then still put the back cut approx 1 1/2" above or would you now do it at the same level as the letterbox? I guess the othe question that kind of goes hand in hand is open, humboldt or conventional .... again with a heavy leaner, from what I#ve been watching was thinking probably open?
  9. Cheers for those ... must admit did wonder if continuing out the back could maybe take the saw with it and was on of the reasons for asking. Not seen many of any doing a dogtooth but I'll pay a bit more attention maybe I've just missed it.
  10. If you're felling a leaner and using a bore cut, do most people then cut the back strap by continuing the cut from inside the bore out to the rear or from the rear back towards the hinge ..... and if the later do you make the cut at the same level as the bore cut or about an inch below? Just interested if there's a right / wrong way as I've been watching a number of videos and have seen people doing both.
  11. The Royal that made racist comments revealed ... wonder if Meghan's ever seen this
  12. ^^ Brilliant and Pi55 funny ๐Ÿ˜„
  13. I must be a glutton for punishment ๐Ÿ˜„ .... or just nuts Johnpl315 ... got your PM thanks, will drop you a reply.
  14. Fed up with sitting behind a desk for years and recently bought a wood burner and want to do something to get outside / do something different including more interaction with other people and have become a bit obsessed with the whole process of felling / processing wood ... Iโ€™ve probably watched every video available about felling in different situations / techniques and find it fascinating. Iโ€™m happy to be someoneโ€™s groundsman / lackey in return for unprocessed firewood but also as an opportunity to see if itโ€™s something I enjoy and would like to do on a more regular basis. I have saws and safety equipment and am more than happy to cut up / limb etc. although I donโ€™t currently have any certification. If I started doing it regularly Iโ€™d happily do the NPTC 201/202 & 203 Units (formerly CS30 & CS31) and a wood chipper course (all self-funded) โ€ฆ. although would probably want paying at that stage โ€ฆ. even if for a lesser amount. I work for myself so to a degree can pick and choose my hours, it may suit someone if youโ€™ve a job thatโ€™s a couple of hours work that isnโ€™t worth getting a subbie out for a day (they may want a full days pay as well) and could do with an extra pair of hands and you can either charge it to the client or just to make your day a bit easier. I live in The Witterings โ€ฆ. PO20 8PU area and am prepared to travel but ideally not too far away if itโ€™s unpaid. Not afraid of hard physical work and I have absolutely no interest in mobile phones / social media so won't get distracted ๐Ÿ˜„ As a separate โ€ฆ Also happy to pay for half decent unprocessed firewood if someone had a local job and wanted to use it as a tip site or happy to cut up / pick up as well. Any takers or queries drop me a PM.
  15. ๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿ‘ ... so agree with all of this and wanted to post exactly the same but it would have made my post too long and a bit of a rant ... she / he had millions behind them and could easily have sought their own help if needed. I think it was Harry who was then saying how mind problems / therapy were so totally unacceptable and the unmentioable subject you couldn't bring up within the royals and then 5 minutes later he says "when I was having therapy" ..... errr ???? The one other thing I'd say, she's playing the "person of colour" card. I've got to be honest, if I didn't know who she was and walked past her in the street, she's whiter than me in a half decent summer and you really wouldn't have a f&&**g clue what her parentage was. You may possibly look at her and think she had mildly olive / mediterranean skin which most would find appealing as opposed to us pasty faced Brits so I'm sorry the "Coloured Card" is absolute F.....g BS in my opinion ... the woke crowd creating a problem that isn't there.
  16. I think I've decided after all it's probably beyond me only because I don't know how to troubleshoot / identify where the problem is and could just end up buying replacement parts for bits that don't need replacing. I did discover the air vent is a breather in the fuel cap and blew it out with compressed air, I also tried messing around with the idle / high / low but as it was running for a while it got so that it just wanted to cut anyway irrespective of if it was under load or not. I've found someone just down the road where's it's not expensive for them to at least assess what it is and if it's worth repairing and will take it from there. Thanks to everybody for their input though .... much appreciated as always!
  17. Skimming through that article .... just as a general observation some Royals don't get that much press coverage and some do, personally I think it's lagely down to the individuals and how they manipulate the media.Harry talks of a press frenzy but William / Kate and Princess Anne don't seem to attract the same yet Diana did. I believe Meghan thought she could use the press for her own self benefit so stuck her head above the parapit and the media realised this, didn't neccessarily like what they saw so they took a shot ... just my 2p's worth anyway.
  18. Harry and Meghan decided to walk away which they have every right to do but they still expected the silver shilling and all the other benefits that came with it and when that understandably didn't happen the toys came out the pram so thought they'd air their dirty washing in public. Would have thought Harry with an army background would know not to burn bridges behind him.
  19. You've gotta love the Aussies ๐Ÿ˜„
  20. Brilliant and thank you !
  21. Are all tank vents like the one in this video at 2 minutes to save going through the whole thing Or are some built into the fuel cap .... not sure if it's relevant but the little bit of plastic that attaches to the lid and goes into the fuel tank to stop it rolling away when you take it off, there's a little twirly bit (I'm sure that's the technically correct name for it ๐Ÿ˜„ ) that inserts into the lid and it's come away ... not sure if that could have anything to do with it but thinks it's probably unlikely?
  22. You know what maybe I should ... at least I'd learn and will probably thoroughly enjoy ... I may just try and mess around with the mix / tuning it before I do in case it's something as simple as that. If it's hardly ever been used is it likely to be the clearances do you think .... I bought this when another saw got stolen and we moved shortly after buying it so it's had virtually no use at all but obviously leaving fuel in it for 20+ years is a killer as I now know.
  23. All of the above makes sense but I'm wondering if I may be best taking it in somewhere as I could just end up spending money on it and not resolving the issue. At least someone who knows what they're doing should hopefully be able to diagnose the problem 1st and then decide if it's worth repairing or not. Cheers for the help much appreciated even if it did just highlight how little I actually know about them ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  24. Showing myu complete lack of knowledge here I don't know and wouldn't know how to tell I'm afraid ๐Ÿ˜ถ
  25. I've an old McCulloch Mac 335 that sat for 20 years when we didn't have a fireplace without being used and old fuel left in it. I sent it off for a service a while back, I'm guessing they probably cleaned the spark / air filter and it starts fine and runs perfectly for the 1st 4 / 5 cuts but then as it starts warming up it starts cutting out under any load. It's got new Aspen in it so I'm guessing it's probably the tuning, from what I've described does it sound like the high may need opening up a little?? It may well be the saw / carb's shot, you can get a copy carb for ยฃ20 .... not sure if it's worth spending the money or not, I've never taken a saw apart but there are youtube vids on how to but if it's anything more than just that I wouldn't know how to diagnose it so would have just wasted the money for a new carb. Any thoughts / help appreciated.
