  1. It is yeah. Thanks for all the replies, appreciate it. The landowner isn't going to pay to get anyone in unfortunately and the tree is coming down regardless (I'd rather do away with the pens and leave the woods alone but that's another matter), so I figure better I do it with what experience I have rather than someone with no experience at all. A dog tooth is what I was planning with the aim of bringing it down just to the right of the tree in the last photo...
  2. Well yes I agree. I haven't done it yet and haven't decided whether I'm going to. But I still want to hear what others would do...
  3. A local 'keeper has asked if I can take down this tree as it's leaning over one of his pens. As you can see it's a bit all over the place so I'm looking for some input on the best way to approach it - I was going to start a few feet from the base where it straightens out.
  4. I was unaware you could get 3/8 in small spline! I actually contacted Rob at Chainsawbars about this who also advised me to get new drum as well as rim.
  5. I switched it back to .325 today. I thought you had to have a different sprocket to run the larger rim for 3/8 but the sprocket that came in the .325 kit is the same as the one that was running 3/8 so I'm stumped. Could have saved myself £20 and just got the .325 rim it seems!
  6. Just noticed on this saw that it's running a 3/8 chain having bought a new .325 bar and chain for it. FFS.
  7. Are there any preventative measures that can be taken?
  8. Thank you! ?
  9. That may as well be a different language to me?? apologies for being a noob
  10. Ha ha perfect I’ll leave the gate open for you.
  11. Interesting. It's near Andover, about 15 minutes from the A303.
  12. A bloke I know owns some woodland near me and has asked me to clear some red cedar out of it. I'm yet unsure how many trees, probably around 50. Pictures of a few of them below. My question is (actually I have loads of questions) is it worth anything? I can get it roadside and as I want to get into hand cutting I'd sure like the practice and to gain the experience etc. So, is it worthwhile?
  13. I mean none of it is very clear is it
  14. That's why it's going to Spud when he's got the time!
  15. No idea! Came back to the bench to have another look at it and without doing anything could turn the flywheel no trouble.
  16. gary112 and lurkalot, you are right and it's infuriating to think that people can/will get away with shoddy workmanship like this. So I may yet go in there and talk to someone. They weren't very open to my complaints last time, ha ha. In fact the guy I spoke to did not give a f*** about it. BUT, there was definitely some foolishness on my part for getting them to do a partial rebuild because it opens up the door to so many potential problems, this thread being proof of that. It also gives them the option to say "you gave it to us in bits so we can't take responsibility" (e.g. a missing torx screw). However, the missing dowels are definitely their fault so at the very least I should go in there and tell them. @Mesterh, as far as I'm aware I put the flywheel on correctly: aligned it with the key; torqued it up; set the coil gap. Like I said before, it's now running...
  17. Returning the saw to them so they can fix their own mistakes doesn't fill me with much confidence... Will probably wait for Spud to become less busy... Thanks for everyone's input/suggestions.
  18. It was used (but in better condition than the previous one) and the dowels weren't included. You can see where the front one is supposed to be but isn't on the rebuilt saw.
  19. Looks like they left both dowels off the rebuild... fantastic.
  20. I fitted the flywheel using cord but it came out in tact...
  21. It seems they both have some stiff competition now in Andover Garden Machinery...
  22. ?ffs don't say that
  23. This little thing was also left on the old case but isn't on the new one...
  24. Yeah it was a partial rebuild. It was stupid of me really - but I didn't think it'd turn into this whole thing. Incidentally I just went back to the shed to have another look after getting annoyed and leaving it for a bit and lo and behold it's back to normal. This leads me to think that something has indeed been left in the case and possibly dislodged after it was left on its side, so that's troubling. But at the moment it fires up as normal. Spud, the coil gap is set to 0.5mm or thereabouts. Another thing I'm annoyed about is that it was returned with a torx screw missing. Ffs.
  25. Already asked, he's too busy ?
