  1. Overheating can cause significant problems with your wood-burning/multifuel stove aside from the fact it will cost you more in fuel. Do you monitor the temperature of your stove gases for overheating?
  2. I wonder if you could help with a discussion I had with a colleague. Do people focus on product prices first or does free delivery catch their attention first and foremost?
  3. Well this post certainly did light the blue touch paper! My personal view:- The earth does heat up and cool naturally, fact Humans are now doubt adding to the problems We need to do more but there is no point small groups doing something, it needs to be a concerted effort. China appears to be the main individual culprit but certainly not the only one!
  4. Thats just what I was going to say @rushes
  5. Using an email address which does not reflect your business looks bad and you have to ask yourself why anyone would do it - so, yes, great point Steve
  6. Tom, They must think we are stupid? However, I can maybe imagine some seriously large companies falling for the scam after seeing money coming and going from their account all of the time. In this day and age no company should be scammed by this very very basic tactic - dont return money or send goods until you are sure the payment funds are clear.
  7. Hi, Unfortunately, we were the target of an attempted scam this week involving the purchase of 2 stoves. We have various systems and checks in place so nothing was lost but just to share the details. We were approached via email by:- [email protected] NORTHGATE SOLUTION (surprise surprise, the company does not exist) Lyntown Trading Estate, Lynwell Rd, Eccles, Manchester M30 9QG Tel: 01616814143 She enquired about 2 small stoves at a combined cost of £949. She accepted the price and requested an invoice for immediate payment which seemed fine. The invoice was sent over with bank details, etc when 24 hours we noticed a cheque for £2629 had been deposited at a local branch into our account. This was £1680 more than had been agreed - red flag lol We were obviously suspicious about the transaction, even more so when we received an email from the "customer" apologising and asking us to return the over payment of £1680 by BACs immediately. Yes, before their cheque had even cleared - they must think we are stupid lol Surprise surprise, the next day we get a call from the bank saying the cheque has been returned, "not paid", at which point we contacted the "client" again. Surprise surprise, no response and not a further word to this day Becareful - the scammers are about
  8. I am just lighting the blue touch paper on this one and stepping back ? Global warming, fact or fiction? Have you changed your stove use habits over the last few years?
  9. I was intrigued to see the number of people quoting on a different post about issues they had with the installation of their stoves. Did you have any issues? Was the work done to a high standard? What would you advise those looking to install a stove today? Interested to hear opinions and experiences.
  10. I also live in Scotland and a Scottish summer is very very different to the rest of the UK - short and sweet
  11. If you knew then what you know now, what would you change about the first stove you ever bought? Larger heat output, bigger stove, different type, spent more, etc? Interested to hear your comments.
  12. Is the flame not a big part of the stove experience? However, if I was getting good value for money off the anthracite I dont think the lack of flame would bother me too much
  13. I am laughing at the number of posts stating "to keep the wife happy" lol Not hard to see who the bosses are
  14. Interesting - I think many people automatically assume that people run their stoves 24/7. However, I have to say that the heat from a stove is much more deep seated and longer lasting than other forms of heat
  15. I have spoken with my colleague and in line with others on this thread:- a 2mm gap can be filled using high temp silicon a 20mm gap indicates the register plate has been cut to the wrong size. Probably easier to get a new register plate that fits
  16. I would be interested to learn how many hours a day you fire your stove. I appreciate that rooms are still being heated when the fuel burns down but how many hours a day to you keep it lit?
  17. We have had one of the hottest summers on record in the UK - when will you be firing up your stove again to combat the colder nights
  18. Where did you hear this from? I have not heard it. Is the installer not referring to ecodesign regs which go live in 2022? How could they sell stoves today if they didnt meet current regs?
  19. Do people see these as more decorative than practical? Or is there space for electric fires in the market?
  20. Wow 32 years is some going - you must have maintained it very well!
  21. History suggests that left wing leaning political parties are more receptive of green policies but the way politics in this country is going, who knows anymore!"
  22. Even though there have been huge improvements in the electric stove industry - not the stereotypical 3 bar fires of years gone by - this is still a diversive subject lol
  23. Hi @woodrascal Good point - if you dont stick to the manufacturer's recommended fuel types you will likely have issues if you ever needed to use your warranty cover.
  24. Over the last few weeks we have seen some difficulties in the stove manufacturing and retail sector. A mix of uncertainty over Brexit, unhelpful comments from politicians and the almost constant threat of taxes/additional costs on stoves in the name of the "environment" have not helped. While the industry is certainly here to stay, it looks as though we may see a consolidation of the sector and a few more casualties in the short to medium term. Are you seeing signs that local stove retailers are struggling?
