Interesting question - do the enlarged viewing areas popular today take away from the old fashioned style and character of a wood burning stove? Personally I like to watch the flickering flames and burning embers but maybe they loose in the ornate style what they gain in extended viewing areas?

There is no doubt that we are moving towards more efficient stoves and fuel types which create less emissions. Many believe that the goverment is simply targeting stoves so at some point they will introduce yet another green tax (Where do these green taxes go? What are the spent on?) in the name of the environment. As mentioned above, local authorities are already stretched with their budgets and weak finances. The idea of encouraging neighbours to report each other does not sit well with the "Big Society" we are all supposed to be part of. Michael Gove seems to be obsessed with stoves - he just wont let it go despite the fact the industry has made great strides without his "assistance".

I see Stovax are listed on the Hetas website as complying with the Ecodesign 2022 regs:- https://www.hetas.co.uk/ecodesign-ready/ Whether all of their stoves are compliant is another matter.

At the end of the day @Tanat Valley Firewoodlike you say, you get what you pay for. We all know the best moisture content is around the 20% level so why a supplier would not give you the moisture content is bizarre. It is strange how businesses start from bad personal experiences.

Hi @Tanat Valley Firewood It does sound like you have the best of both worlds there lol Interesting to see that the feedback in 2011 was not good at all for Stovax but the more recent feedback is much better. We have supplied many Stovax stoves over the years and had no complaints at all.

Many people may find it bizarre but overloading your stove with fuel can leading to excessive temperatures which can impact the efficiency of not only the baffle plate, fire bricks and flue but also the stove body itself. Has anyone experienced damage to their stove because of overloading/overheating?

We see a lot of people looking for firebricks and door rope .

For many years the Hamlet range of stoves from Arada Group have been seen as "budget, introductory level" stoves. Has anyone had a chance to look at a Hamlet solution 5 widescreen stove in a showroom?

Mixed opinion so far which is probably why the government has not gone ahead with an exchange/scrappage scheme to date.

As seems to be the general message in one of our earlier posts, many older stoves will last decades before the body gives in and they need replaced. Along the way there will be small replacement parts required but nothing major. So, this prompts the questions..... Would you support a government backed stove exchange scheme, allowing those with older (less efficient stoves) to replace them with more efficient stoves with lower emissions? The scheme would be something along the lines of the car scrappage scheme, you receive a discount on the cost of a new stove when you replace an older less efficient machine.

The general consensus seems to be that installing a wood burning stove is not all about saving money - its also the ambience and the different type of deep seated heat they provide. Fair comment?
