  1. How does the ZigZag cmpare to the Spiderjack?
  2. Hmm I have never used any of these sorts of gizmos to see if it actually is an improvement. If something is mechanical and has moving parts then it is possible it will fail in some way. But I am a Luddite.
  3. Why do people buy these sort of things when all it seems to replace is a Prussik loop? The traditional being cheaper and likely more reliable?
  4. This seems like good value.... Qualcast Petrol Chainsaw - 45cc
  5. It was on the ratings on the 3M website. The helmet mounted versions were 1db or so less than the headband equivalents. With CS 38 39 coming up am looking for a decent climbing lid and ear defender set up from the outset you see
  6. So those here with the Pfanner helmet set do you find the hearing protection inadequate on this helmet?
  7. I was for a while involved in bat surveys at height. We also used thermal imaging cameras by FLIR to monitor the comings and going of the bats and also the heat given off from nesting. Very interesting assignment.
  8. This was what crossed my mind. But would it survive outside in our climate? Cobalt T one of the most beautiful creations of nature
  9. A quick search on here brought up a thread about the Pfanner helmets. A concern was raised on the thread about the rating of the defenders with reference to use of chipper.
  10. I am searching for a lid. Like the idea and concept of the Pfanner system but have concerns about the hearing protection rating. Particularly for the price. I am thinking of a more customized lid say a vertex vent with SNR30/33 and vizor
  11. When you are using a Woodchipper what SNR protection do you use? I have been reading an HSE document that recommends SNR30 for most of the Woodchipper models tested. I notice that many helmets incorporating ear protections seem to have lower ratings - such as the Pfanner Protos which is SNR26. The Husqvarna helmet mounted rated the same. The 3M Peltor website also shows that protection rating reduces when the device becomes helmet mounted too. Do you generally use a second set of ear defenders for wood chipping or do you carry on using the ones connected to a climbing helmet that are rated below 30SNR?
  12. How do you guys get on if the nearest supplier is not really easy to get to in terms of how far they are away from your location? Arguably I could go to FR Jones but it is a train trip there.
  13. Bahhh Sorry seems this range has been talked about on here already. I must remember to search on forums http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/news/73873-new-arbortec-breatheflex-chainsaw-trousers.html
  14. I hears about this on Radio 4 Farming Today. Was a sad thing to listen to.
  15. Looking to get some new Chainsaw Trousers Any recommendations would be appreciated. Is the Arbortec range OK - such as these: https://www.arbortecforestwear.com/breatheflex-at4040-li-bk-chainsaw-trousers.html
  16. R Mac: You are correct in how the climbing has taken place. I am intersted in doing the chainsaw and tree felling courses and the ropework courses you mention. I hold an HGV licence so can easily tow lower weight equipment. I also have a forklift and telehandler cert.R
  17. I am interested in doing the Chainsaw, felling trees and ropework courses. If anything for interest sake. Reading this would I be "employable" in the arboriculture profession? In addiiton to any qualification I could attain in this sphere I can offer full First Aid at Work, Intermediate Life Support First Aid and a C+E driving licence - so that is loads up to 44 tons so can tow a chipper behind a 4x4. Which I guess is B+E (Car and Trailer up to 3,500? Or would it be more - so C1+E up to 7.5 ton? I also have a Forklift licence (cert) and the same for Telehandler.
  18. In the SpiderJack video it is very impressive how the people use it to jump from branch to branch.
  19. Sorry to make you read the above. I think I may have found my answer on another thread. Seems the Sequoia is popular around this forum. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/climbers-talk/61352-rec-climbing-harness-petzl-sequoia-srt.html
  20. Can the SRT version be used for Blakes hitch climbing or do you need one of each for each purpose?
  21. The Petzl Sequoia seems to come in two versions. A standard and an SRT. Probably a dumb question but coming from a rock climbing angle, they both appear to look the same. In online pictures at least.
  22. Do you think it was dangerous using dynamic rope to try tree climbing before buying dedicated equipment? I like it. I like being up in the canopy. It's a nice close to nature feeling.
  23. In terms of budget I have been looking at the Petzl Sequoia and the Tree Motion. I would also like proper arb climbing rope spliced.
  24. Thats is the exact rope I have used. The Top Gun II DryCover. But obviously now liking the tree climbing so would like to invest in the equipment to do that properly and comfortably and of course safely. I am not so worried about gizmos - although things like the Spiderjack look very impressive! Keep It Simple really. The system I use is the rope over a pulley suspended on a webbing cambium saver - one side connected to the harness via a double figure 8 - the other rope connected via a Prussik/Blakes Hitch and a second Prussik to use for lifting up with the foot. I would also be interested to learn how others here got into arboricuture too.
