  1. Chas through AA is another £70 on top, Im not knocking the AA approved contractor scheme, I'd love to be a part of it and probably will join AA as a member this year anyway, I just wan't to be compliant with as little extra cost possible right now as I'm sure most of you can appreciate with all the outlay starting up

  2. PS Forgive me, I'm sure all are aware but this is a business accreditation opportunity not an individuals, albeit many individuals cite their reasons for becoming approved as a personal goal.

I'm hoping to get my business registered as an approved contractor on the local council, nrw, and university frameworks.

  3. Hi Paul, just looking at the fees and that has put me off, £495+vat for the assessment then £295+vat yearly scheme management fee. I know there's more to it but compared to other SSIP affiliated schemes (CHAS for example at £157+vat) its a very expensive sticker to put on my truck...

  4. Hi, I'm new to the business side of things and have been looking into accreditation schemes, basically, what does it all mean?? Chas, safe contractor, achiles, AA aproved, what do they all do and what is worth the money?

Particularly looking at Constructionline, generally speaking would you need chas or safecontractor aswell or does constructionline have it covered??

Any help would be much appreciated! :confused1::confused1::001_huh:

  5. At the end of the day you shouldn't have to do anything your not comfortable with, your well within your rights to back off from any job your not comfortable with. Out of interest is the line insulated or uninsulated?

I had a similar situation a while back with a a guy I was working for, 4 guys on the job and pressure to get it done, real windy day, big multi-stemmed sycamore in between 2 caravans with not much space, wind was borderline more than i was comfortable with. Got up there and set up the rigging blocks but wasnt feeling it and just thought f*** it's not worth it and came down. Boss was pissed thinking I was just being slack so got up there himself, sure enough half an hour later the wind really got going, but it would have been unsafe to leave it at that point so he had to just get on with it free falling big limbs into this ornamental garden destroying a sky dish and shrubs in the process just to get down quick.

Moral of the story, go with your gut and have the confidence in your own experience to know where the limit is and when to say no, things look different from the ground.

  6. Bought a new set of kleins on ebay for £100 and really regret not investing in some ally geckos. Get really sore knees after long days on them, problem seems to be the top of the spikes applying alot of sideways pressure on the inside of my knees pushing them out a la john wayne, maybe I need to spend a bit of time fiddling with em

  7. If got this one by David More and John White its the mutts!

  8. Hi guys, I just joined the forum and thought I'd introduce myself (conventional arbtalk etiquette?). Based in mid-wales I've been climbing freelance for a while now and have just started trying to get a bit of my own work investing in kit, website etc. Been reading the forums for a while but have never contributed so a big hello to you all, any advice or feedback on the website would be much appreciated (including how to get it up from the 6th page on google!) Cheers!
