  1. Rustic bench. Compared with some of the fantastic works I'm seeing on this thread, my skills need a bit of work! However, all that said, it is a good beer bench
  2. Elm shelf and Redwood towel rack
  3. Not really understanding the significance, or implications of queue de vache. Our joinery, which I may add are highly experienced, creative and producing high-quality bespoke furniture, are delighted with them. It is staining!
  4. Beech and Sycamore milled last week.
  5. Thanks guys Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. Anyone recognise what this is on the Maple tree's leaves? It is all over the tree, near enough all the leaves. The Maple standing nearby, 6m away is totally clean. Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. Thinking of shelves. Not as strange a sight as walking to the beach with chainsaw!! Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. I found a huge Pine beam washed up on beach yesterday. I returned this morning and cut to 1m lengths. Was wondering if anyone would know why the ends have turned a dark green? Is it a reaction to oxygen getting on to wood after it has been submerged in the sea for so long? Thanks, Mike Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. Cheers! Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. When do think you will have more of these in stock, Rob? Very interested in getting some. Cheers Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. That too.... obviously
  12. Beautiful. Well done!

    Sycamore

Tree is standing firm. Good roots on other side too. I was tilting strongly to leaving it, just needed some more experienced eyes on it. Will fill in hole and leave tree alone. Many thanks

    Sycamore

Hi, Sycamore upon a bank in grazing field with root plate exposed on one side. The otherside is ok. Root plate exposed due to severe flooding back in December. I am surmising that the other side will sustain tree. We are now cleaning up the damage to fields and will fix the damage to bank. Will this Sycamore recover, or should we fell it now? Thanks for your any feedback. Mike
  16. No idea. On estate I work on. Felled before I got here. I'm sure it's been down a while. The trunk I milled was suspended of ground by the root plate. One end more decay than other. Gets worse as I drop through log. Top planks alright. All solid. Plan to other half of log later. Will amputate decayed end prior to milling.
  17. Milled Beech today!
  18. Yup, I thought I was on a hiding-to-nothing, with regards to two equal halves. Just couldn't see the line through. Had not thought of raising ends. Next opportunity I will give that a try. Cheers
  19. Douglas Fir beer carrier. Cheers!
  20. Thanks for milling tip. We got a mix of stuff still to mill - Ash, Beech and Elm. Maybe next week! All the outdoor furniture here (a Camphill special needs village) gets sanded down and re-treated every Winter. But thanks for the tip.
  21. Ash branch. Milled this afternoon with 880 and 36" Alaskan. Larger portion will become a playpark bench. Was an awkward cut for me. Original intention was to take off top, leaving substantial log for bench. Now wondering whether a chalk line may have helped split log in to two equal halves for a bench set. Set my depth of cut at large end - taking saw to other end, pre-cut, to see where the chain would emerge. Ended up cutting at 10". Thinking now 15-17" may have given me the two equal halves. Any thoughts?
  22. Cut a couple the other day. No need for support - log was quite happy on ground whilst I cut the slots.
  23. Great bench. Great use of rings. Well done!
  24. Ok.... Thanks guys
  25. Hi, can anyone help with identifying this tree? Very dead and multi-stemmed. Beautiful firewood, but hoped to make some nice stuff with some of it. Initial thought was Sycamore or Ash. Many thanks!
