  1. Jack Snipe from the same position, taken at the end of October. Quite lucky, usually only get arse end shots as they fly away.
  2. A couple from the frozen saltmarsh this week, Reed Bunting and Twite.
  3. Looks to be a "sod hut", often constructed in the woods by charcoal burners, bark peelers, coppice workers. Simple timber frame, and then covered with bracken, heather or sods (turf). Just made as a shelter for the seasons work. This could be a charcoal burner, basket and probable riddle behind.
  4. Little Egrets making a splash.
  5. Keeping to the theme, incoming Emperor, wings are "slightly worn". They are a bit of a sod to photograph though, just shoot off in random directions.
  6. Common Darter, bonking on a cowpat. I think that's how David Attenborough would describe it.
  7. Looks like a Flesh Fly of some description; Flesh fly - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG Good luck with trying to identify it though!
  8. Silver Washed Fritillary?
  9. Watching me, watching you. Think we were both Stoatally surprised.
  10. Our local Spoonbill (been around since November), did a close flyby and started feeding close to me yesterday. Would have been rude not to take a couple of snaps.
  11. Same here today, unfortunately most of the Gull action was too distant and I just missed the ant grab of one that came in close. Not sure how many got sucked into the Hawk engines, but it made a steep turn when the pilot saw the flocking Gulls. I think that's what the pilot said!
  12. That happened a couple of weeks ago, it was spooked by some dickhead pushing his pushbike up the hard shoulder, straight into the path of a wagon. There are pics of the incident on Twitter. ?
  13. This is the second exceptionally dry spring in a row, we had a bit of rain about 10 days ago but that's about it for the last couple of months. The fell water supply ran out for a few days but the tanks have filled again.
  14. Well that's at least two of us that could be wrong ? Funny you should mention lenses, I had come in to swap over to a macro lens to get some shots of grasshoppers (OK I know I'm sad) and noticed a peregrine through the window, by the time I'd got back outside it had buggered off. Hung around outside for another hour in case it came back, no luck. Still haven't got the grasshopper pics!
  15. That's fantastic to see them gathering the mud for their nests. I sometimes flood a bit of ground when it's dry to help them out.
  16. Any more pics? Could be a pale phase Buzzard, if it was flying like a Buzzard. Think they're more common on the continent tho
  17. Great Spotted Woodpecker feeding young on a very windy day, filmed on Friday
  18. They tend to drop in for a feed and then bugger off, just checked some pics from last year and I shot them on 12th of May so they're on schedule.
  19. A few shots of Whimbrel on the Estuary, they usually pass through this time of year on the way to their Northern breeding sites. Have included a pic looking North up the estuary toward Scafell
  20. How many times have I told you? "DON'T FART IN THE BATH !"
  21. At least three male Blackcap were vying for the attention of this female near the woodshed today. Totally unperturbed by me whacking away at gert lumps of Ash.
  22. A Brimstone, not sure of gender, near my woodshed today, and I think a female Orange Tip
  23. Knew I'd seen something. Quote from Titter--- Result, finally! - The Osprey recently frequenting the M6 bridges at #Brockholes was ringed at Keswick, Cumbria, on 5th July 2006. Thanks to @RichardduFeu for info.
  24. I think the only way to do it is to play around with different settings until you find something that suits, I will change all the settings depending on light, wind and subject, but they are the ones that I can instantly flick to. One thing I forgot to mention is that I turn off image stabilization for moving subjects. I tend to use high shutter speed because I'm usually using 900mm effective focal length
