1. I used ipostparcels.co.uk and stated it was a chainsaw, no issues at all.
 2. I'm listening , in fact I'm really interested in any wood that needs turning into firewood pretty much. We should have a log store around 15-20m3 going up in March, and enough land to store unprocessed too. I did wonder how much a Kronospan lorry driver would need in a bribe for loosing his (wood) load
 3. I'm interested in this too, since the woods we where going to be using are undergoing some Council based work, we won't have access for maybe a year or two. Interested in getting a load that needs cutting/chopping/storing in Oswestry area.
 4. Eddie I spoke to you yesterday on the phone, apart from killing my phone, it was good to talk too you and there's a PM making it's way to you in a minute with what we talked about. Having just purchased a Husqvarna 365 and having a summer use only Stihl trimmer, I though it better to use Aspen 2 than the normal mix. Having no local dealer, I found an online dealer who delivered and had free delivery for items over £50. I've ordered three 5ltr os Aspen 2 for £56.95 delivered which turned out rather handy. I've no idea if the courier knows what they're delivering so I'm a little hesetent in naming the company, but if they do it's a rather simple way for us with no dealers about to get our hands on some Aspen.
 5. Just a quick update, Joe is now the owner of one of the 056, with TCD looking like he's going to own another 242 soon! The 550xp fell through, as once he'd tried out a 536Li he hated the idea so decided to keep the 550xp. On hearing the news it was straight to FR Jones and yesterday this arrived
 6. Good morning guys (and gals), I'm looking for some guidance on how much I should be asking for a Stihl 056 I have left (from previous 242/056 thread). It's only known fault is the clutch cover has broken, apart from that it was being used until the day I purchased her. Saying that I'm new to chainsaws so can't vouch on how good she looks inside etc. She's got a couple of chains and bar, but I wouldn't think there of any great value as they're well used. I'm looking for a ball mark figure to ask for her on these forums, as I'm not a massive fan of ebay so would rather not put her in an auction, and any help would be much appreciated.

Just had a browse of your website, and it's such an interesting site for a view into your work.

I especially like the 'tree' wood store idea, and might try to do the same on a smaller scale instead of building a long stay large woodstore for wood that's going to be used in 2-3 years time.

Big thumbs up.

 8. Well then now. I took the 242 is in for a service and sharpen, and on getting back to work myself and a colleague got talking about chainsaws. He was telling me how he purchased a 550xp a little over a year ago, and was looking at selling it on as he'd only used it a couple of times and decided he's purchasing the 536Li. From what I can gather of prices online, he's selling it pretty cheap and he's going to have it serviced before selling. So I'm rather back to thinking of selling the 242 and the 056 now, and going with the 550xp!
 9. I think the decision is made! I'm keeping them for the time being, as I'll get them serviced and maybe change a few cosmetic parts to make them look like new! Before I commit to sending them off for a service, any UK recommendations for the servicing of the two as I want them to use in early March. Also what bar/chain combo should I be looking at for both for the best coverage in a mixed tree woods?
 10. I do see what you're saying, but from my point of view, they where sold as a job lot on ebay, so there can't be much sentimental value to them for him, or the want for them to have gone into enthusiast hands. In all honesty, that's what I'm torn between. From reading the forum and the posts in this thread, I now understand that I've actually purchased a somewhat cult-ish set of saws, and fully acknowledge they're wasted in my ownership. It's nye on someone buying a classic Mustang just because it was the nearest car for sale locally, and using it to pootle about gently to the shops once a week . But that won't stop me getting a fair old price for any of them, as they can fund a better (new) chainsaw that I can buy, a decent set of PPE and a course. So all the money will go back into the chainsaw market.
 11. Well it looks like the one 056 has now found new home. Still undecided, should I keep the 056 and the 242 and get them both serviced and refurbished if and where required, or sell them on to someone who can fully appriciate them? If there anything in the £300-400 mark that's well worth buying new to ease the loss, or will the two of these be a better long term idea. If I do keep them, is there anywhere worth sending them by courier in the UK over the next person/dealer? If I do decide to sell, any idea what to ask for the 242? I know it's based a lot on condition, but being a noobie that would leave a lot to be desired in me giving it a once over!
 12. Crikey you guys comments are making me feel like all of these are going to be totally wasted on me, it would kill me as a car enthusiast to think of someone with a classic of a car only using it to drive to work and back In all honesty I'm now thinking even the 242 is going to be wasted on my using it? Would I be better off selling to a pro who can show it some love, and getting a generic souless new Stihl/Huskie with the money I make?
 13. Hi guys. Thanks for all the replies, I knew I was onto something special when I looked at these saws on the internet. Picked them all up this morning, from what can only be described as a bit of a chainsaw enthusiast. He was getting rid of some of the older models as he showed me his brand new STIHL MS880 which was rather nice! He was also really concerned about selling these three to myself a newbie to chainsaws. Luckily his mind was put at rest when I told him I was soon to be on a course, and they wouldn't be used until I'd had time with a pro, and was happy to handle and run them. He started them all up for me, and showed me them in action, so all good and well. I'm instantly taken to the 242, as most of the work it will do will be chopping a few trees down in the Mrs work's forest and turning them into firewood, so I have a feeling the two 056's will be wasted on me, so selling them to fund the course and maybe a newer saw in the years to come is the best plan, and good for keeping them in some loving hands. The one 056 has a broken chain cover, but easily swapped with a new one from the States, he also thinks the bar it has with it isn't the right spec, I've not a clue regarding that. The second 056 was his little pet, so is in pretty good nick for something he classed as needing a service, comes with a 20" oregon bar with oregon chain with 25 on it?!? It also turned out both are the electronic quickstop version of the 056.
 14. Hello there I've been a long time reader, but with nothing much to add in experience I've been a lurker not a poster! I was on the lookout for a chainsaw, as the wife has a forest that her work own and has a load of fallen trees that are going begging, and then they've also stated we can take a few down every year for the multi fuel. On looking at buying a decent chainsaw, I've ended up with 2 x Stihl 056 and Husqvarna 242 Chainsaw from Ebay job lot. Not picking them up until tomorrow, but paid a grand sum of £200 for them, and they're still in use currenlty. Would anyone have any recommendation of anyone within a decent distance of Oswestry or Chester that might be best to give them the once over and then service/refurbish them? I've Morgans of Oswestry as the main contender so far. Probably looking at selling two of them, and from what I've read it will be the 242 that will be kept, but if I can make my outlay back I might be tempted to keep a couple.
