  1. Its a lifestyle choice, if they are happy doing that then fair enough, its not for me though. I want the best for my family and working cheap is not the way to achieve that. I also want a comfortable retirement.....

you sound like you have got it sorted ,work, family, money, balanced.i did too many years too cheap, and struggled. I think I have it sorted now,but life would be sweeter if someone had pointed me in the right direction earlier.thats where websites like this can really help people.

  2. they all seem to advertise trailer cranes not just trailers ive looked at the new botex ,I don't like the square bolster pins and sockets when loaded all the pressure is pushed into a corner (and they do split )on a round pin the pressure is distributed round the socket collar much stronger.years ago botex did make a single beam trailer with round bolster pins I would love to get hold of one of these and recondition it

  3. Bump!

Annoyingly I spoke to one of the people who was interested in this machine before I took the dodgy deposit, he has now bought another machine... I want to sell this before the end of the month as the new one will be arriving soon. I have just had the brakes overhauled, new seals in the master cylinder. She is ready for work, and compared to the ones in Jas Wilsons yard she is nicely priced too!

that person was me, and if it helps your sale I an really pleased with my tractor (same spec crane and tractor) and it has already earnt me a lot of money jobs, that would have been 2 1/2 to 3 days completed in a day.so if you are thinking of getting one for forestry and arb work bite the bullet and buy one they will soon pay for themselves.not only do they earn you money they save a lot of physical effort and keep your cutters /gang happy.hope this helps .nick

  4. I would go for a 4cyl turbo valtra 100 hp + with swivel seat and 10 t timber trailer with demountable 3pl crane 6 meter reach this will give you a versatile set up for most situations (small scale forestry and arb work)

as for the tipping trailer idea ,pretty useless for forestry work ,load bed too high affects stability, solid floor and solid sides a pain in the arse when trying to grab and unload wood just pick up an old farm trailer and use it with the 3 pl crane when you need a tipper.

swivel seat in tractor saves a lot of back ache but you could run the trailer crane off of your Kubota initially to see how much forestry work comes in.

timber trailer definately go for a steering drawbar very useful in the woods getting tight turns round trees stumps etc

  5. we use 200 ml glyphogan (roundup) with 50 ml pastor used to be (grazon) in a 10 litre water mix . the roundup is systemic (kills roots) and the pastor is a broadleaf specific. this mix kills everything.if you cant find pastor look up the active ingredient ( ie roundup is glyphosate) they may have re named it again.

  6. Hi guys, I have often read and been told that alder is a poor firewood so I have always avoided it but a mate of mine handed some In the other night and I can honestly say everything I have read and been told is utter nonsense it burns long and hot with good flames boils the kettle in no time at all and leaves an excellent coal bed.

give it a go you will be pleasantly surprised

alder is good it is one of the best woods for charcoal production too
