If someone or something is imperiled by that person's absence, i.e., genuine emergency, then common humanity says you ought to do something about. If it's something that can wait or someone else nearer can be called upon in the interim then the 'employee' can return under their own steam/expense and the job can go on.

We recently lost a Scag Turf Tiger in a garage fire. Great mower, built like a tank, fast, but only does mowing.
Insured for a new one, which is very appealing, but I'm thinking why not a small alpine with finishing mower? Obviously alpine isn't zero turn but a lot more versatile than a dedicated mower.
Whadya reckon?

Single stand electric fence or electric horse tape and spray with repellent.

The inspectors have no powers and no right of access unless: a) they have a warrant and an accompanying police office; or b) you allow them in.

Ash responds well to re-pollarding.

Be good to hear any real old chainsaw user reviews....
Just buy one and post a review.

I don't use a saw much these days, but years ago when I did I never had any fancy vices or clamps. I just used to cut about 3" into a log or stump and rest the saw in the cut with another suitable log under the handle. Does no one do this these days?
Yes they do. Some CS32 instructors pass it on.
I have a bench vice on a 3' length of railway sleeper. Works great.

Well oiled Meindl Woodwalkers (or wellies).

Super UTO (SUTO) tractor oil is 10w30. Less than £2 per litre.

I wouldn't use wd40. Too oily and will attract dirt and grit to make a nice grinding paste!
I would. WD40 is part solvent and not a very good or persistent lubricant. The manufacturers state: "It does not attract dirt or moisture to metal surfaces."

Just been through four tanks on a fallen Alder. Chain still cutting well and making good chips.

As a young business I was worried too much official looking paperwork might scare off customers.
It's an invoice not a 50 page contract. Start as you mean to go on.
Having said that, just paid a £2K bill from a climber handwritten and torn from an invoice book. Given to me at end of last day on site. We paid immediately by bank transfer. An excellent climber and top bloke.

@daltontrees -- thank you.
This reduction was done in the name of 'tree surgery'. If a surgeon removed your appendix with the same disregard for procedure, how would you feel?
You have to ask what is the local authority playing at? This must have been an approved and ticketed(?) contractor. Contact the TO and at least get them off the list.

My overriding concern would be a lease long enough to get to harvest! Contract in legal form for sure.

You don't need to know all the things at this stage, that's what the training is for. Personally I found that seeking additional help on the internet was counter productive, especially for the climbing courses (CS38-39) as I ended up with information overload, some of which was incorrect or misleading.
+1
Just take a look at the assessment schedule so that you have some idea of what's coming up.
If the instructor does his or her job well then you're ~90% there.

I have a 26ton road towable splitter with a Diesel engine when I'm next up at farm I will take some picks and post for you to have a look.
Thanks. I'd like to see that.

What do you split those big lumps with?

Have been trying this on a couple of small Stihls. Overall I'm impressed. Stays sharp longer than I expected and cutting performance is good.
As someone else reported I have experienced one chain that snatches a bit. But that is on an MS230 with a 16" bar.

Would vegetable oil really be a problem???
I guess not because it isn't anything that couldn't get there by normal cooking. Might impart a burnt oil flavour though
