  1. Jesus, bad Christmas ? The point I was trying to convey was I do not believe what someone tells me who has a vested interest. Enjoy the rest of the festive period Joy and have a few drinks.
  2. IF you told me to jump into the canal I woulnt. Most kiln dried is well below 20% joy Just out of interest, whats the moisture content of your kindling these days ?
  3. 15% after 12 months split moisture level ? absolute rubbish Its obvious all the fresh cord to instant seasoned log merchants are going to defend the practice, but fact is it can't be done in 12 months or less. So what you are saying that wood cut and seasoned for 2 years should be nearing 10% or less ? and 3 year heat log moisture levels ?
  4. You see so many tree surgeons websites claiming a log of 30% moisture is seasoned and ready to burn. Not according to the solid fuel association it isn't! I can honestly say that I have only seen a handful of tipped loads of logs on peoples drives that were obviously seasoned well. Almost all are blatantly green wit hose unsuspecting punters then buying coal to get the green wood to burn.
  5. Pressing a moisture metre on the outside of your logs is not a accurate way of testing a logs moisture. You need to split the logs and test it in the middle and only 12 month old wood will be double 15%. You can kid yourself your selling seasoned as I presume your sales depend on you claiming your selling "Genuine" seasoned logs. I currently have about 40 tonnes of 18 month seasoned oak stacked and covered but its still 35% in the centre once split. Once customers burn "Genuine" seasoned logs most don't go back to the con artists selling green as seasoned, and I am not insinuating your are a con artist ! For every "Genuine" seasoned log you need to burn four unseasoned to get the same heat output and of course a chimney fire down the road or corroded flue liner.
  6. The Heat Logs required to get the unseasoned or semi seasoned firewood combusting ? quite a few people doing this now because seasoned wood 2 years or more just doesn't exist. Fresh processed logs left in vented bags for 3 months just isn't seasoned how ever some may claim.
  7. Hi, Is the unseasoned split beech from the Duncan Spinner ? Cheers
  8. Hey ! sick joke or what Dan ??
  9. Of course, I get my raw materials for next to nothing so my prices reflect this. HMRC will be focusing in our game. I even have a credit card machine !
  10. If your raw material is becoming difficult for you to aquire, at I assume the price you have become accustomed to paying why are you selling at a price which does not reflect the massive increase in materials cost ? I am assuming of course you have not increased your price per cube by at least £20. Supply and demand but log sellers insist on giving a ever increasing scarce commodity away cheap as chips. I sell poplar and alder mainly which costs me almost nothing so my prices reflect that and I can turn big quantities over.
  11. £40 a cube for poplar and alder. Punters want cheap and give them cheap. Other log bods hate my guts
  12. Your giving it away !! you will get £60 -£70 next year !! Achieve that at the bank ? If its wood you can sell it, there will be no firewood available of any quality after xmas. Sit on it bro for much conga next year:thumbup:
  13. Guy in Stoke bought a load of green poplar now he's selling it 'ready to burn' but of course it won't burn and he won't get any repeat custom as a result. He's now doing the same with fresh softwood. On that subject I've seen a few pallets of kindling that was sold as dry and covered in a forest of white and grey mould, shocking but its going on.
  14. Lots of rogues out there selling saturated logs as seasoned , I've seen them tipped on drives more than once still with leaves on them. Not accusing anyone of anything but highlights the demand as you guys seem eager to get anything you can.
  15. EXACTLY !!!!!! But most of my punters don't give a monkeys or ask if its seasoned they just want as cheap as possible. Cheap as chips:thumbup:
  16. You guys going to be selling the wind blown green timber as processed ready to burn logs for this winter ?? you seem eager to get your hands on hardwood now ? Punters accept green as cheese logs because they have no choice but to accept them, if they don't want to pay top dollar ?
  17. Poplar is a great firewood just needs leaving 12 months to fully season prior to splitting mixed with alder and leylandii. Poplar burns up well and then the laser burns slower once lit and the leylandii flames well when dry. I mop up all the pop I can get.
  18. Punters don't want over hyped/priced firewood they just want cheap. I'm selling bags of Alder, Poplar with Leylandii mixed in, had no complaints just more orders for my cheap mix bags @ £25 a pop.
