  1. I was approached by a person today who enquired as to the price of my delicious seasoned hardwood logs (min 2 years). I told her the price was £380 for a 2.5 cube loose load. This person baulked at the price saying she was paying £215 for "dry" what ever that means tranny tipper load. She is from the old guard of scrawmer who has got used to paying next to nothing for logs when logs were regarded almost as waste and priced accordingly. She said when I told her to go and order from her usual log man that he had run out of "dry". I charge the correct premium for my "genuine" seasoned hardwood and I sell lots so why are almost all log suppliers wedded to almost working for minimum wage rates when the demand for quality logs is massive ? That guys worked just as hard as me but made much less for no reason and I find it weird why most do it. I can only think the need to convert the cord into CASH asap is the be all and end all regardless of doing the maths before hand to see if hourly rate is correct.
  2. Your unprovoked attack on me Joy could be interpreted as nasty and does not reflect well on you ! As your choice of forum name " logbaron " implies a very very big ego, staffs big log cheese. I am not going to retort Joy as I would be debasing myself.
  3. N1:thumbup:
  4. the mafia operate in Ukraine ? Surely it will a all upfront situation ? Anyone embarking on bringing a container of cord for eastern europe must be desperate as its mega high risk surely ? the duncan spinner thread shows how dodgy it is even when going through british middle men. But hey he who dares and all that.
  5. What happens if the buyers claims they told you the firewood was a open fire ?
  6. It will be a additional £500 a year by the way
  7. You better get onto your insurers skychuck first thing in the morning
  8. Why ? Well if you sell firewood to the public and the public are always fast to pass the buck and your firewood spits and causes a fire and you did not state spark guards should always be used on a open fire as bluecoat has also stated so I think i'm correct in saying that you would be liable to a product liability claim from the buyers insurers. Be in no doubt the buyers insures will be looking for any scapegoat if the house is gutted by fire.
  9. Am I talking rubbish Sam ? or do you so not want to read posts from someone who has his own correct opinions ?
  10. Best run it past your broker for peace of mind
  11. You sure sky chuck??? You are very very mistaken !
  12. Shown my true colours ? My set up is my business I have no interest in anybody's else's set up. If the agenda for asking was I bona fide business which is what I suspect then god help all the firewood sellers around me who advertise with mobiles only and state CASH ONLY on their advertising.
  13. Surely if you are selling fuel to the public you should have product liability insurance. If you sell logs that spit onto furniture and cause a fire then you could held responsible especially if you did not give the buyer a disclaimer telling the dangers of spitting fuels and the need for a fire guard and the fuel sold was not as described i.e seasoned when it wasn't. Something to ponder on .
  14. Let it go Dan I was not referring to you.
  15. Thats a very important issue actually how many of you have got good product liability insurance as well as liability ?
  16. here here ! but it appears anyone who dares question the ethics of selling unseasoned firewood is instantly attacked by the pack. Those pictures maybe a accurate representation of the wood he was describing but then again how do we know for certain ? we are being asked to trust that they are, which is fine with me. BUT what is not fine is the claim fresh cord can be split and sold as seasoned in a week ! This practice will only become more prevalent as the demand for biomass gathers pace. At the end of the day as someone as said selling unseasoned logs as seasoned ready to burn could end up with the seller being open to a product liability claim.
  17. The kings new cloths
  18. how do we know that log hasn't been placed by a fire to give the illusion of dryness ?
  19. I felled some ash 18" in june, split it and stacked it under cover in a windy location. Moisture metre last week registered 24% on the outside BUT split again its 35% + in the centre. So the argument that its fine to sell after a few weeks in winter is quite absurd and if anyone is using green timber on their own appliance then taring will be occurring and if that person works in the firewood trade thats quite disturbing.
  20. Joy won't like the competition m8
  21. Sorry I haven't almost all sell there waste fresh green wood as burnables logs to a unsuspecting public.
  22. I honestly do not believe customers want logs that:- A) Do not burn well B) His with steam escaping from the log killing the fire c) As result have their stove glass, doors & flues coated with corrosive tar D) Guaranteed chimney fires E) Poor if any heat from the wet fuel F) A overall bad experience all due to the seller selling them unseasoned / semi seasoned firewood
  23. People complain if the logs are too dry as they burn quickly :-) Here we go again someone justifying selling unseasoned logs. The burn hot and slow if you control the stove.
  24. Ive not met one yet myself.
  25. So your customers rely on a heat wave if your to supply them with dry firewood ? So tell me how can the log processors currently processing fresh green cord into logs now hope to get said logs dry and seasoned now ? I see day in day out on drives wet green logs fit for nothing but stacking till next year if they're lucky. There seems to be a massive bias on here to justifying the practice of trying to convince the end user you are supplying genuine seasoned logs when the nothing could be further from the truth in most cases. The truth is there are very few genuine firewood producers in this country who care what they sell. Most are tree surgeons and farmers selling logs as a cash crop and have little thought of the damage they are doing to customers very expensive stove installations. The high demand for firewood makes it far too tempting to chase the quick buck.
