  1. Simple: 1. A good groundy would have let it run rather than hold it while it swings back and hits climber. 2. But a good climber would make sure he's above the point it's going to swing into, either by climbing higher when pushing the chog free - or if it was me, tie the chog and the bottom and not the top. It should then flip downwards and away from the climber.
  2. Well if it's wet /waterlogged site, why not plant a nice Alder or Weeping Willow ?
  3. In need of a chipper to hire (sub750kg and road towable) in Sheffield area this week on Wed 9th & Fri 11th Can anyone help?
  4. Can anyone recommend a tip site near Mansfield for tomorrow? Thanks
  5. Don't get treehogs. They're crap. Uncomfortable and really difficult to to tighten properly Replaced them with Ally geckos. So they're an extra £100 over treehogs, but well worth it. I never enjoyed climbing with spikes until i got the geckos. All velcro version too, none of this struggling with buckles malarky.
  6. Yep, there's not much around there. Thanks anyway.
  7. Anyone know somewhere to tip chip near Tideswell or Hope Valley in Peak District? Thanks Will
  8. Hi I'm moving to a small village near Ashover (between Matlock & Chesterfield) in a couple of months and would like to find subbie work with local arb firms. Ideally I'd like to find regular part-time (2 or 3 days per week) but I'd also take ad-hoc work too. I've got 4 years full-time climbing experience, cs30,31,38,39, chipper, ROLO CSCS, UA1, National Diploma Level 3 in Arb. Plus all my own climbing kit, PPE, saws, light rigging gear and a landy tipper and Public Liability Insurance. Happy to work just as a labour -only climber or as bona-fide sub-contractor. Comfortable with reductions or dismantles large and small. PM me or email [email protected] or mobile is 07967 361 604 Cheers Will
  9. Hi, Anyone know of any free wood chip tipping sites around west Sheffield areas near Ecclesall Road, Abbeydale Road, Ringinglow Road?
  10. Yep, it's technically spring from tomorrow. Feels like mother natures taking the piss a bit with that though.
  11. When is this bloody winter gonna end?! I've never lost so many work days due to weather before this winter. Well and truly had enough of this shite. Bring on spring, I'm skint.
  12. I'd need the chipper for work around Sheffield. But I also get work in the Peak District, and I sometimes go as far as Stockport, Macclesfield, Chesterfield, Alfreton. I only do my own work part time, so it would just be a handful of days a month at the moment. Do you have a day rate price?
  13. Turner Hire are expensive. Yep, I do that too. But sometimes, smaller jobs need smaller overheads. And as i have my own tipper van, i don't always needs a man + chipper + van. Just chipper and groundie sometimes.
  14. I'm on the lookout for chipper hire in Sheffield/Chesterfield/North Derbyshire areas Needs to be under 750kg and road towable. Thanks
  15. Just jump straight into level 3 mate. I did and I'd never done tree work at that time and new hardly anything except what I'd read in books in my own free time. Level 3 ain't rocket science. As long as you're comfortable with computers and reasonably literate, you'll be good to go.
  16. Interesting. Would have thought the engineer should have considered that before removing the trees since the roots would probably decay eventually anyway to some extent.
  17. Well it seems like a good complimentary bit of service for not much extra cost. Plus, if it's a really big stump, I can just factor that into the overall price of the job.
  18. Yep, fair enough. I only use "Ecoplugs" now anyway, to keep things tidy and minimise collateral damage to nearby vegetation. No more sloshing glyphosate liquid into chainsaw grooves anymore. Too messy. Doesn't look professional. Can wash away or be ingested by curious pets/wildlife.
  19. Yes, everyone has made good points on this. I agree. I've stated the following on my website to make things clear: "We perform tree removals by dismantling and felling. And where regrowth prevention is requested, we will treat the cut stump at no extra charge."
  20. You're quite right, and I normally do discuss this with them at the time of quoting the job. I must have forgotten this time. I almost packed my drill and ecoplugs in the van on way to the job just in case, but didn't - now regretting it. Not making that mistake again. I've decided to state on my website that treating stumps is automatically done on appropriate trees, unless otherwise requested by a customer. Just to make things simpler and clearer for customers.
  21. So here's a question for all you business owners and sole traders etc: When you've taken down a tree for a customer. Do you automatically treat the stump to prevent regrowth (non-coniferous trees obviously) whether the customer requested it or not? Or do you only provide this service if they've asked you to do it? I ask this, because recently a customer is complaining to me that I didn't treat her 2 poplar stumps after I'd felled them. This was never discussed when quoting, if it were, I'd have stated on my quote sheet about stump treatment. But she says she'd assumed it would just be done automatically. So what do you guys consider to be standard procedure?
  22. standard i think = 7.5/16lt
  23. On the topic of defender tips. Can anyone advise best tyre pressure for a 110 tipper?
  24. Good call, I'll contact them and see what they can do for me. Cheers
