That's really useful information thank you for posting. I have seen 5 bar farm gates with 2 side by side 'X' shape braces. I'm sure they work, but can't for the life of me see how. The X brace near the hinges I get, but the second one just seems to be floating to me. Rich

I always thought it was 45° too. I know none of my corners are 90° so there's no chance for me.

Now where have I heard that before? Oh I remember, moving on. Nice gate, a good size to start off with

Good honest gates. I would be very pleased with those. Can I ask how you fixed the ledges please? Rich

Thanks for that NI Trees Good advice, they understand not to mess with white tape. If there are any gaps in hedges or fences now we put a few meters of tape and a 2 or 3 plastic posts and they stay away. Good job they don't understand electrickery.

Yes, the little one in the picture works his way around a field scratching his backside on every post until he finds one that moved a bit. Then he keeps backing up to it swaying from side to side. I've seen him with rear legs almost horizontal. He can tell when he has loosened a rail so then he turns round and pushes up and down with his neck. When the rails off he limbos underneath. It's a good bit of entertainment. The last fence we put up to keep him in looked like something of Jurassic Park.

Thanks, and yes I can only think some livestock or horses must have been scratching against it.

This is my effort. Made from old fencing rails and 3x2. As you can tell I'm not a professional gate maker. I really enjoyed making it and I hope it puts a smile on your faces. I don't think I've set the bar too high so does anyone else have pictures of gates they have made?
  12. Got it My mate has a couple of tractors I would love to get back to shiny. He reckons it would break his heart to undo my hard work.
  13. William I wouldn't have a clue how to drive it. I will try to post what you need to make it really shine Pics won't post
  14. Hello all, I'm Richard, I found Arbtalk a long time ago and thanks to your help I have been clearing overgrown hedges and gardens for a few years. I thought I should sign up and thank you all. The knowledge of the members has saved trees from being felled and me from chopping bits of myself. Take care all Richard
