If we do break a line at least my climbers father in law is retired BT engineer.
Your comments have made me smile today, thanks gents.
Why don't you see if he can get up the pole and run the line along the floor while you do the tree I've seen it done before by ex BT employees there's normally enough cable rolled up to do it.

I get all my saws, chains and ppe from wj greens in hadleigh Suffolk brilliant customer service and very competitive on price and usually have every thing you need in stock would and do recommend them highly
Another vote for greens can't beat their customer service I get everything from there

Hi all I'm looking for a small yard or some land where I can put a shipping container on around the Colchester area. I would need to store tools and would like to have some space to process my logs only on a small scale just getting difficult on the farm I'm currently on there's a real lack of space. Thanks Andy

Hi James, this might help:
VETree - Management of veteran fruit trees on Vimeo
I look after an old orchard in Kent (near Dartford) and for the past couple of years have an open invitation to anyone interested that they are welcome to come along and have a go.

I'll be making the same invitation this year, for some time in Jan/Feb.
Cheers
Alec

The permit parking is normally ok as
Most residents have the visitor permits. The football club side with the new estates is fine as there is ample parking it's jobs in town or the old side which tend to be a pain with no parking or yellows. I have just parked on them and been fine apart from one occasion. It just annoys me
the lack of help some local councils give to small business especially ones like us with large amounts of waste to move
-
I'm just over the border near Stoke by nayland but spend a lot of time in Colchester which is when I seem to find all the jobs with yellow lines and no parking anywhere nearby!! Most of my other work is out in the country so I don't have the problem with parking.
-
I just price the parking ticket in the job now if there's no other parking option. If you get one no great loss if you don't there's a bit extra money in the pot. I've tried speaking with my council and they are the most unhelpful when it comes to parking even as a contractor. I have even told them that I would drag a load of old conifer a few streets a way to my parked truck making a mess everywhere and even then there were indifferent about it.

Quick update I got the thing started after a few pulls! I let it run up for a while and started a few times to make sure it's ok. I will give it a run tomorrow again to make sure it's ok fingers crossed.
Agg221 the rivers going down where we are but it normally empties into the Stour when it goes so may be coming your way
-
Thanks guys I've taken it apart and dried as much as I can and got some wd40 in it last night. I'm going to run it up this morning and fingers crossed it starts! We're on a branch of the Brett which runs into the stour so must be the length of the Stour that's bad

Just got home in the dark to find the river has burst its banks into my garden. Not normally a problem it does it every year but this is the highest it's been for a couple of years even last years wet winter! The problem is the shed where I keep my tools has about half a foot of water in it and my husky long reach hedge trimmer had fallen off the shelf and was sitting half submerged in water.
I've taken it out and brought it inside to dry off. What damage would the water do to the hedge trimmer and what do I need to do to it to get it running again or is it knackered?
Thanks Andy

I'm with arborisk can't fault their customer service and premiums. I haven't had to use them yet touch wood but if their claims is as smooth as the rest of their services hopefully it is ok.

I ended up going for the Dewalt challenger in the end and I've had nice warm dry feet for the last few days think they were a good choice so far
-
Thanks I had thought about doing that just wondered if anyone had a more permenant solution to avoid keep taking it on and off

Hi all I have acquired 2 bench vices one is going on the chipper and the second I'm looking at putting on my transit tipper for when I don't have the chipper with me. I'm stuck for ideas where to put it can't go on the rear of the load bed as it will get in the way when tipping chip and it would get in the way in the rear shelves. Has anyone else put one on a transit in a position where it's been easy to access and sharpen saws. Thanks Andy

Hi Ben do you have a number for the future when I need to call you as I'm running out of room where I store wood at the mo and can see me needing to get rid of some after jobs thanks Andy

Hi all I'm looking for a new pair of boots for when I'm not doing tree work to save my chainsaw boots. What do people recommend they need to be steel toe cap and waterproof as my old pair are starting to leak and I'm fed up of wet feet
thanks

What are people's thoughts on this chipper - vermeer BC625 on eBay at the moment. I'm looking for my first chipper but can't seem to find a lot of details on these only a few videos on YouTube. Does anyone have an opinion on them good or bad just trying to decide whether to make the journey to have a look.
-
Nice find I've used one many times a great chipper now all I need is a bit of luck like that
-
Yeah tried earborist which is where I found the kwikchip may go and have a look if people think there an ok chipper.
Richy I had thought about the finance route but the timing isn't great at the mo. I have a couple of things which I have already on finance from when I started the business and don't really want anymore at the mo as I have a new baby on the way early next year. I know long term I will be spending more but will just get a chipper for a couple of years until my finance is finished. Then I can look at getting a better one on finance.
