  1. Ah! I think that was the one I used (560) the name does ring a bell! I've got 2 discount vouchers for Husky PPE and Saws so I intend on using them wisely, it's an extra £30 for the 555 so would it be worth spending the extra? As for use I am hoping to start volunteering/working soon so it'd be getting used quite frequently
  2. I passed my cs30/31 I am now looking at buying my first saw, now I used a Stihl ms260 on my course but I had a go with a Husky (not sure on what model) but I remember it being similar to the 545 and the 555. I am wanting to know if anyone can give me an opinion which one to go with? From what I can gather the 555 has a quick release air filter and a bit more power. Anyone help?
  3. Ah thanks, i am generally okay with stuff like that. I'll keep doing my reading. Thanks
  4. Ah, I will keep doing what I am doing then! Just a lot of money and I really really don't want it to be wasted! Hate tests of any sort...
  5. Hi all, I am panicking a bit about next week, I start on Monday. I have read and re-read the assessment criteria and it's sinking in. But is it enough? I've got a mate who said he did a bit of reading before it and he was fine but I am a bit uncertain? Also is any of the assessment a written test? I ask this because I am crap when it comes to putting brain to paper.. always have been better when it's practical assessments. Cheers
  6. Ha cheers for the offer but I am an 11/12 in most things, thanks again pal. I'll sort some good ones out. Hoping I can try get some voluntary work in straight away
  7. Thanks guys, got the criteria, I will look into boots, thanks for all the sugestions!
  8. It's the five day course. I'll have a look into that website. And I intend on doing it full time if I can get a job but until then i'll be wearing them for the course and then when i volunteer. Just spoke to the guy who I am doing the course with and he made wellies sound very undesireable. I'd say my limit would be £150 tops..
  9. Can anyone advise me on this? Not sure whether to go and buy a decent set that will last a while or some second hand ones to get me through? Also is there anything I can do to prep for it or am I best going in knowing as little as possible? Cheers Sam
  10. Yeah, I was going to attempt to get an apprenticeship but that's a nono apparently. I am going to have a word with a few people in the next week, quite a few companies around here doing it.
  11. Spend more time under the bonnet of a landy than driving it
  12. I think I'll be doing that then... I've worded that badly. Thanks.
  13. Hello all, after finishing my degree just over a year ago now I have decided that I want to revert back to my original plan in life... forestry/tree surgeon. I have been looking into courses and I am confident that I could do well on them. However I am lost on how to approach work? Do I gain the cs30/31 first and then go to employers or do I get the ticket first and then approach? And once employed are tickets discounted through work or is it something that I'd do off my own back? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
