Thanks for the link 10Bears. Very interesting. I've tried hard to decipher any possible connection with Stag beetles being found on or near the Wirral. I still think that I'm more likely to find a cat-flap on a submarine in Birkenhead docks. Your link substantiates what I said in my original post:- "They are mainly found in the south east and south west of England." There will always be the oddball Stag beetle that goes astray and forgets which area of the country its meant to be in.

Lucky you. We don't get to see them in the North. I miss them since moving up here many moons ago. They are mainly found in the south east and south west of England. In May and June they are flying; looking for dead and decaying wood to lay their eggs on to start the next generation. Be nice to them. They are a protected species.

Its wood. When its dry it will burn well. I guess that its properties will be similar to pine. I'm not thinking that there will be too much of it in the UK and therefore not too much knowledge of how good a firewood it may be. Dry it. Try it. Let us know. -
You'll find that there are dozens (maybe hundreds) of products that will claim to get rid of Mare's Tail (Horsetail). It is a very invasive weed that is difficult to eradicate. I tried all sorts of treatments to get rid of it on a small patch of land. The solution for me was to mow it regularly (twice a week in the growing season) for three years. Problem solved. Its now gone. Old gardeners advice;- never let it see a Sunday. (i.e. cut it back once a week) And . . . . don't consider letting sheep do the job. Horsetail can be very harmful to sheep. You've got a difficult job on your hands if you want to get rid of it completely. Be patient; keep at it; you'll win in the end.

That is just twaddle! You can sell firewood by weight or volume. You can sell it by the truckload; sackload; builders bagload or in an old ladies shoe . . . . . . . . just as long as what you are selling is just what you have described. -

Don't understand this thread at all. The Ebay advertisement says that it is . . . . . . "Brand New in the box Stihl MS661 with 30 inch bar and chain. 12 months Stihl warranty. . . . . . " What is there to suggest that this is not a legitimate sale? I am aware that there is a lot of dodgy equipment sold on Ebay, but what is it that suggests that this item is dodgy? Please help educate me because I fear that I am missing something.

That is a Anemone Hupehensis. Commonly known as Japanese or Chinese Anemone and also as Thimbleweed or Windflower. They love to grow amongst other flowers. They grow tall and erect and have many flowers on each stem. They are robust and the flowers are long-lasting. Mine start to flower in mid August and carry on 'til the end of September. I have introduced them to mixed borders where they thrive. Be aware that they will multiply annually by throwing out suckers. So, unless you want to allow them to spread, you will have to be vigilant.

Curiosity forced me to do a bit of research. The carving, based on the Tower of Babel, was done by Colin Wilbourn. See him here Colin Wilbourn - Sculptor Believed to be the biggest single tree carving in the UK. It is a 200 years old Cedar of Lebanon that was damaged by storms. The carving is 60 feet high. It took 3 months to carve; the artist spending 12 hours a day mostly for 7 days a week. -

The legal definition of a minibus is as follows:- "Minibus" - a motor vehicle which is constructed or adapted to carry more than 8 but not more than 16 seated passengers in addition to the driver. So, a minibus has 9 to 16 seats. Over 16 seats it becomes classed as a coach. -
