  1. Just read the original article and looked at the pics. Probably larger mats may have avoided this accident but are people really aware of the inclination that some trucks can work at, some are as low as 1.5 degrees which is nothing, barely a road is this flat! and when operating for periods of time the machine will move on its mats and the weight shifts, do guys when being trained get taught that it is a good idea to reset outriggers occasional, especially in the wet.
  2. Excellant, as always are minds are on something else more important that the mrs!
  3. If your in the market and see a MEWP advertised cheaply, take a step back and think WHY and not but its cheap! Many used ones available are sold for a reason and that is, they are near to there life limit before a major strip down is required and full inspection before being rebuilt and put back into service. As all stated in manufacturers service manual. Some machines this will be on going and others could be mandatory every 7-10 years. Any reputable service company when working to LOLER regs. should know this but there are plenty that think there above this or simply don't know. Also many of the vehicle mounts you will find are from new, very close or above there max GVW. So when transporting 2 x guys and tools, you will be overweight and VOSA now another goverment money making agency are fully aware of this. Myself, i'm a service engineer and fully aware of the above and this older guy recently brought in for inspection and a minor repair a vehicle mount and was horrified when we told him what was required, i showed him what the manual stated and he eventually agreed to the additional repairs but it cost him a small fortune to his cheap purchase.
  4. Hi John, it is highly unlikely to have so many pots go down at once, usual sympton of a failed pot is that it will either fail and cause function to go full speed when activated or minimum speed. If you have proportional functions at the ground controls and all these functions are working ok then remove this joystick and connect at platform controls and try on the invidual circuits, to help eliminate the pots. I'm surprised the engineer you had look at didn't do this, it is so easy to guess fix things but this is always at the customers expense, better to prove something has failed first. I am based in Bristol if you need anymore help give us a bell on monday. 01179 609499 Chris
  5. CPS in Cardiff, 02920 453194, quote your model and serial no. usually found on the rocker box.
  6. I think you ought to try and check your emergency lowering, if the screw caps aren;t fully undone this will give you limited travel to your spool valves, highly unlikely to be an oil or filter issue, if you need to change hydraulic oil then there is something seriously wrong with the hyd system, as this oil doesnt break down like engine oil. if your gonna change then a 32 grade oil will do.
  7. I can do it, your probably sorted now but in the future tel : 01179 609499
  8. Hi New to the site and so late replying to this post. You will find that stated in the ops manual for just about every machine is a comment 'not to be used as a crane' and machines would not have any certified load points for such applications and in by doing so you could affect the CE marking of the machine in use, therefore in the event of an accident the person using it could be held liable. Modern machines after 2004 (of a certain platform size) all have to have an overload system fitted. With these fitted, there a few machines available with either an option for a fixed hook or a winch, turning them into quite versatile machices and these are CE certified.
