1. Yes there was the black crusty fruit bodies you can just about make them out in the pic.
2. David have you come across it at this height? It was a first for me!
3. David in the fungi guide it is described as a white rot, is it not a soft rot in the early stages? White rot developing in the advanced stages?
4. Definitely Kretzschmaria, just wondered if anyone had come across it at height before.
5. Has anyone come across Kretzschmaria at height before?Until now I have only seen it on the lower stem but came across it at about 15M in a tight fork! no other signs of it anywhere else on the tree. Pics are poor quality I know.
6. I'm not saying you're wrong you just haven't convinced me yet! I don't think I have come across Xylaria yet so I will be looking out for it.
7. Tony I have to be honest I did stick my finger through it this morning when I took the photo, I can't be sure but I don't think there was any white, but there also wasn't any concentric rings. I didn't take any more photos and won't be going back for a while, at the minute I think I'm still heading more toward Daldinia but cheers for the info.
8. Will the Xylaria just be hollow and crumble? I know the Daldinia has the concentric rings but do they always persist or can they become hollow when desiccated?
9. Family is all good cheers Martyn, I think I still owe u a ld of firewood! Yes we have been on A40.
10. You could be right Tony, reading up on it, the fingers can fuse together and polymorpha means many forms, but I'm not overly convinced either way, didn't give it a second thought at the time. Don't know how to do a thumb up!
11. Thanks David, I thought it must have been asked before, puts mine to shame😞
12. Ha ha Mr Amos how goes it? How's life on the dark side?
13. Here is the Daldinia! I appreciate its fair game on the woodland floor, but still interested to see how many different types people can find on one tree, standing or fallen.
14. Ok not sure if this has been asked before and not sure if my pic has attached but there are at least 3 different fungi working on this fallen beech stick. Ganoderma, Kretzschmaria and daldinia concentrica
