I would not want to be descending on 2 ropes in that situation!

Not sure of the exact figures, but I believe about 90% of rescues are self rescues and alot of injuries are to the arm or hand. Now if you have to self rescue on 2 lines and 2 friction hitches, this is going to be very awkward or indeed not possible with one arm/hand out of action.

Noodle not dust[emoji106]yep, wedges are good for large rounds but still straight grained, and even then good technique with the axe flaking bits off is easier. wedges and gnarly bits are a battle...I'v learnt to noodle with the saw, much, much better.

Smart traffic lights are becoming alot more common, we have several sets in our neighbouring town.

I think theres alot of us out there that prefer dismantles. Spikes on, dont have to worry about beating growth points off, final look of the tree etc, etc. I think you'd have to offer more than that to fill your diary.

Remember, it is not because anyone cares for your well being, it is to make sure everyones arse is covered if the worst should happen. Organisations and companies do not want to pay out compensation or be sued.

Must have taken a pro to get that to your yard Mark.

Of course, reducing large mature oak trees ruins the look of them imo. Unless the reduction is minimal, but then its hardly worth doing.

25 yrs ago we were clearing motorway embankments. Where m3 meets m27 and you get roadlocked islands, there were loads of adders. Really had to be quite carefull.

Yeah, always used to come accross an adder or 2 on 2 or 3 seperate occasions. Now I have not seen one in years. I live in North Dorset.

It is quite common of the council to say they want nothing to do with tree and let you crack on.

I would go 201tc all the way. Make sure it is the tc and not the t, there is a vast difference.
The 540 has great power but the build quality has always been an issue for me. They may have since solved this.- 2

Yeah, had a pair of M airs but i too suffered cold feet, even when not that cold. Something that has not happened to me in the past. I have a pair of the Scafell arbortec which are real comfy and ok with spikes. First pair i had split round the heels only 6 months in! Just bought another pair (3 weeks ago) and will see how these go. Tried the other boots they had but none felt as comfy. I have been meaning to give the Zermatts a go, next time.
Be interested to hear if these new Meindle boots are as cold as the airstreams, if anyone knows?? -
Completely agree Mark but some are better than others. There is nothing on earth that will let sweat out WHEN it’s lashing down.
That is an undeniable fact of simple physics.
All the fancy technological names and advertising in the world won’t change that.
I have had the cut and climb and rate it highly, i just dont like smocks and the price.
Has anyone tried the cycling style waterproof jackets? They look good and breathable, quite tight fitting. And half the price of a cut and climb.

Nice tent Paul. You still getting on well with the 500 there? And that.....is how I ended up living in a tent for a few days, next to a chipper,an old Victorian Coach house and a pond.Where I climbed a tree and found a few big holes so a Mewp was called for and then i met Pie eater Pete and his dog whilst working with Kev Stephenson and his crew........oh,and being very lucky to try out not one...but two brand new saws! You really could not predict my life. But in order to get from last year to here I really have to fill in the gaps and it,s something I,ve been putting off just through the sheer amount of pictures and remembering everything.Buti have to get my thread back on track. It,s a part of who I am.- 1

My point was that I think it makes more sense to refresh cs38 than other units that we do every day.So what was your point?
Your post states the you never get to practice CS38 but the company you contract for insists you practice it, which is it?
Refreshers are there to prove that a chainsaw operator is still ‘competent ‘ to use it safely, one day every five years, hardly a money spinner.
And yes it does get very costly if you have several empolyees who all need refreshers in cs units, all the different ua units amongst others. -
Is there evidence to suggest that? If so fare enough.Because people get sloppy and pick up bad habits and do it day in day out until someone gets hurt, that’s why you need refreshers.
Why don’t you arrange a practice day in CS38 for all employees who hold the unit?
It doesn’t have to be done through a company or organisation, keep a record of what you covered, this is assuming that the person doing the recording is competent themselves.
As for practicing cs38, we do and have it recorded as you suggest. It is a requirement by the company i contract for. But that was not my point. -
Its all box ticking and arse covering and company's making a good deal of money from it. Imo you should not need refreshing what you are practicing day in, day out, where is the sense in that? I do think however that cs38 should be refreshed as we never get to practice it (hopefully) and this is a unit that does not need refreshing. Makes no sense to me.

Which did you prefer, the blue or green?A few from this weeks project, clearing out laurels and hollies as part of a regeneration project. We had an ecologist and wildlife inspector on site to help the works progress. Also as you can see had a few bits on demo. Honestly didn't think there was too much between the loaders. Multiones panels were much better with the rhino coating. Hope you enjoy. -
Bear grills demonstrated a knot like that, it was called something like the suicide knot!!I’m sure I’ve seen something that holds all the time it’s loaded, but releases when constant load is removed.
Or did I dream that?
I’m no rock climber, I must add, exposure terrifies me, but I love watching it and reading about it.
’Valley Uprising’ is an amazing film, haven’t seen the full Honnold/El Cap thing yet and Leo Houlding is a bit of a hero of mine.- 1
