  1. Great pictures! The instructor must have been a legend!
  2. You could have said I'll fell the tree then offer to replant something more suitable. You wouldn't feel so guilty and you get to charge extra for the supply and planting? Everyone's happy!
  3. Weight may be an issue. Just means no overloading suppose . Ive heard of the helper springs people use. Will get it on the road and in use first and see how i get on. The lights are being made up now. They're going in a light board and im using seperate LED round lights for the brake indicators etc. Should look good when its finished:biggrin:
  4. Getting there. Sign writing and a few other finishing touches and she'll be ready for work!
  5. Nice reduction. Good natural shape maintained and not over thinned as many people make the mistake of doing!
  6. Theres some cracking trees there. The tree in pics 8 & 9 is a grey pop. Id like to find out the presnt champion of that species as this one must be a competitor!
  7. Some various pictures from a stroll around the local deer park at the weekend.
  8. Tony- Hope its ok to add some pictures to this thread. It seemed most relevant. Heres a veteran Ash i reduced today. The intersesting thing is that the estate manager said that the victorians grafted a piece of weeping Ash onto the stem 100yrs or so ago? I believe it was maybe an old weeping ash that through the years has seen multiple break-outs and reverted growth has eventually dominated? But who knows? It was an interesting tree anyhow:thumbup:
  9. Love the reliability of a hilux. Land rovers are just too unreliable for me. And I don't really fancy having the drivers window open on a winters day just so I can lean my arm on it.
  10. Looks chaps. All I'm saying is that IN MY OPINION I write quotes out for my customers because it protects me and the customer. It's a fixed price and I believe the majority of my domestic customers like to have something on paper to guarantee that price. Again. I don't know what it's like where you are but around me there are cowboys who will give a verbal price do a shoddy job, intimidate them and in circumstances demand extra. Ie. the price was only for the felling not the waste away. THAT IS FACT. If your way works for you then that's fine. But for me a written quote is my preferred method.
  11. I've obviously touched a nerve. So it's safe to say there are split opinions on this subject of which we are all entitled to.
  12. Have you ever seen rogue traders:001_rolleyes:
  13. Have never seen rogue traders etc. I want to move to where you are if you never have these problems!
  14. Yes it was a made up example. what I'm getting at is that this type of thing does happen.
  15. That was an example, but again around my area sadly this does occur!
  16. For some reason the cheapest I could get my hilux tipper down to was just under £1000! £300 more than the transit
  17. They are the cheapest I found. Got it down to £700 fc.
  18. Well you must have some very professional cowboys around your way! Around my way they normally tell the customer a price and once they've dropped the tree through the conservatory they demand twice the cost!
  19. I always give a written quote wether it be a hand written on a headed template or a typed version. It's what separates the professional from the cowboys IMO.
  20. You sound like an interesting guy. I instruct foundation degree arb students at Plumpton college in east Sussex. Would be good to get a talk/presentation from you at some point. It seems you specialise in P & Ds so that would be a good topic to go over with them. Sam
  21. Once. Greedy boards all over the place. Chip spraying everywhere and then shovelling it out by hand. Never again!!!
  22. My old mans buildIng it for me. He owns Southdowns motor works off the A22 at lower dicker.
  23. Im going to leave tool storage off. For two reasons. Weight and security. I Will just put tools on the back when i need to. I find tool boxes attract unwanted attention. I always store kit at the yard overnight anyhow.
  24. Was fed up with risking the transit off road and decided to convert my trusty Hilux into something more suitable. Its not far off finished now so will post more once complete!
  25. Good sound advice!
