  1. Tractor porn awesomeness-keep it up!!! 4x4 would definitely be my first choice but they are either over budget or have had the daylights kicked out of them. Would 2wd do till budget allows for a 4wd...plus when you’ve got a big snig on what difference do the front wheels make when they are up in the air???
  2. Cheers for the replies already... Half tracks would be awesome but also like hens teeth, heard you can cross ditches easily with them by lifting the front axel with the bogie wheels! The old ‘Nashers’ seem to have higher flow rate than most others of the same era but I reckon something with a ROPS cab is a must even though my alpine only has a roll bar, so that probably puts me into at least the 70’s in terms of tractor era when safety cabs or frames came in (although I stand to be corrected). Looking to skid/winch and possibly run a trailer and splitter but really looking to see how the increased weight and half the drive on skinnier tyres will go compared to the alpine. Equally the alpine is terrible on the road with really low speed and scary twitchy steering when flat out and being passed by cyclists uphill... Keep the replies coming [emoji106]
  3. Looking for your experiences using an older style 2wd tractor in the woods. I’m used to running an articulated alpine tractor in the woods at the moment but that may not always be the case in the future. They were used for years even when 4x4 technology existed both in forestry and ag but are almost extinct now if buying new (not that I am!) Iv read proper ballast and weighting (and chains) can make a big difference to grip and performance. Looking for your experiences. Cheers!
  4. Good shout on putting together the FB group. As has been said, might be worth making it public and working out when to start tagging in Isuzu Uk and the local dealers we all have had face to face dealings with...perhaps even Watchdog or similar? The more I read I can't help but think this is all a bad joke from Isuzu and that DMax stands for Dilution Max and the jokes on us!!! Today's dipstick check made for depressing viewing...
  5. If you set up a FB group I'd definitely sign up, it would help when confronting dealers that it is an issue and fairly widespread I would think. We don't do a huge amount of miles off the estate we are based on so I don't tend to calculate mpg as we have lots of gates etc to go through and slow forest roads to travel on...which is why it would seem we have issues. I can probably dig out a print off with our mpg from its last diagnostic check. What we do though is a weekly vehicle inspection and I can prove mileage (lack of) vs oil creeping up the dipstick to some degree. We also seem to get some oil in the tray next to the oil filter despite making sure the filter is torqued up and tray was recently emptied...? I dread to think how diluted our oil is and despite our dealer stating categorically when asked that we would be covered in the event of a failure due to oil dilution, one of the emails I received back from Isuzu seemed to suggest differently
  6. Woodworker, We are in the same boat with ort 63 plate dmax. Fobbed of by a dealer who must be getting sore from sitting on the fence and wanting £160 odd +VAT for an oil and filter change. This on a vehicle which has only covered 13,500 miles and on its third oil change! Isuzu were equally un interested and wrote back to us with a very similar sounding email to what you got blaming driving style despite me pointing out lack of information on this in the handbook. It makes me sick that dealers are punting out vehicles not fit for purpose and manufacturers not standing by their warranty or their product. I like the idea of sitting outside the forecourt with the truck sign written with the problems...I bet that would get a result! Andy
  7. Cheers for the input guys. I had meant to take some pics of the winch in the shed with where I had thought about attaching to but time was against me. Next week! The more I think about it having a solid anchor is the key as the tractor only weighs 1500kg with the winch and on a double pull is likely to start shifting about. Eddie good thinking about the draw bar sadly our winch like many modern ones has a solid butt plate but I wonder if running a chain from the draw bar under the plate for the line to attach to would work or if the chain would be compromised with the load on top?
  8. I have seen that done before but it was on a triple line pull trying to extract a tractor with a 6t winch in a bog. It just pulled trees over... I'll take a couple of pics today of some of the ideas iv had for anchors.
  9. Hi guys, We have an alpine with farmi 351 skidding winch. We have done plenty re-directs etc but have never needed a double line pull (touch wood). No doubt the day will come when we do and that's why I'm curious where you anchor the end of your rope. Does anyone anchor their line back to the winch? Thought about using the bottom pulley as an attachment point. Any suggestions, can't find anything on the search function. Cheers
  10. Hi mate, we have a farmi 351 on our Goldoni. We ended up extending our link arms to make the tractor work better with other implements, it gave a more sensible pto length but definitely worked before although ground clearance can be an issue.
  11. Being so narrow iv had a few clowns over take at ridiculous places so close I could have almost touched them driving down the road. We found with our Nokka trailer with the drawbar shortened and load bed drawn in we can get on a 16ft trailer...just! Would happily drive an old 35 down the road over our artic steer alpine any day of the week.
  12. Some cracking looking machines out there! What does everyone do when running heavy implements on the back? We have just got a lateral flail mower which sits on the end of quite a long hydraulic linkage and leaves the front end a little light. Can't decide whether to run front weights, water in the tyres, wheel weights or put something like a winch on the front. Would probably be an electric winch used for self recovery and probably be as expensive and more useful than weights. Would a large winch and mount be heavy enough? Your thoughts are most welcome... Edit-referring to the Goldoni pictures a few pages back!
  13. Monkey business- we have it plumbed in too. Nice to have the option if we are running the trailer behind the pick up and using the tractor with the skidding winch.
  14. Here's our Goldoni euro 45. After ALOT of research this is what we ended up with. It has super wide floatation tyres which incidentally raise the ground clearance over normal wheel and tyre combos which is the Achilles heel of these machines. With valve guards, skid plate and articulated steering the tractor will keep going places long before the driver has bottled it. We can pretty much get this and our farmi winch anywhere you can carry a large size tirfor. Articulated steering and reversing trailers isn't that bad btw! Apparently these were badged up in green and yellow and sold in the states as JD...
  15. Thanks for your replies first off. Likeit - Iv always loved working outdoors and have done some hard jobs like labouring and outdoor instructing in the past in the West of Scotland, not famed for its sunshine, so not afraid of hard work in poor weather and in fact quite enjoy the feeling of putting my head on the pillow at night having done an honest days work and crashing straight out. Also I enjoy being active in a job rather than stuck behind a desk. Andy- Any advice on how you went from where I am to where you are now? Cheers
  16. Hi all, first post although I have been lurking on here for months. Basically I’m after some advice…Its finally happened, I’m facing redundancy and am looking to do a job that makes me happy not necessarily lots of money, though not that the last one done that either! Having worked as an outdoors instructor in the past and an enthusiastic green wood worker I thought I would combine the two and here I am. Basically I’m wondering if it’s worth spending what will be a big hit on gaining all the qualifications and equipment to get into this game to discover that there is little or no work. Im happy to start at the bottom of the ladder so to speak and work my way up. I’m not trying to steal anyone’s work just trying to make an honest living. Any and all help/advice appreciated particularly relevant to West / Central Scotland. Also check out this, building a log cabin in Alaska by hand…inspirational stuff! Cheers
