  1. Thank-you catweazel i will give it a go regards Wallnutt
  2. i have been sold 2.3m lengths of freshly cut softwood, it will have to season for possibly 10 - 12 months and then be chipped in a large machine that does 50m3 per hour. i could weigh a log now ,the same one again in 10 months to asses seasoning losses and then chip it and weigh the chip I thought that by using metres all through the process i can work out the cost of the chip in £ per m3 rather than by the tonne which is affected by the variations between species of wood and moisture content of the chip.
  3. I am trying to work out the cubic capacity of woodchip, if i have 100m3 of logs, from previous threads this equates to 70m3 of timber i.e. 100*0.7. my question is if this wood then goes through a chipper what will be the cubic size of the pile of woodchip at either G30 or G50 spec.(is the air gap similar) by working it through this way i can remove the loss of moisture in calculating the cost of the fuel. Thank-you in advance
  4. 1 tonne green wood will become 750 kg dry wood (depending on species and moisture content). 750 kg dry wood will (when split) become 1.5 m³ firewood (smaller pieces => larger volume) Sorry to take this off at a slight tangent but if i bought 100 tonnes of wet soft wood left it to dry to give me 30% moisture content and then chipped it for biomass would i get 75 tonnes or 300m3 of chip. p.s. how long would i have to wait to get to 30% moisture thanks
  5. Have just looked at the web site, correction they are not cheap
  6. Emergency Eye Washes. Arboles UK Saw this advertised in the NFU Farmer and Grower magazine, not sure of the cost but looks effective
  7. dust not a problem we use sawdust in commercial poultry applications however it must kept as dry as possible
  8. If anyone is on mains gas biomass really is a non starter cost wise, if you use oil or bottled gas it might stack up, but it is important to remember that these wood boilers require a lot of effort to keep filled with fuel, regular servicing is essential and the govt payments require a lot of hoops to jump through before they spill the money.
  9. Most people with a biomass boiler will want a moisture content below 30% so a store to keep the pile dry is essential.
