Was talking to the other lads yesterday about this after a few days of pruning monstrous platanus trees . Real good tip ..
-
Only positive things to say about Arbtalk here , moderators extremely good and a fantastic leader in Mr Bullman

What a load of absolute twaddle.
Uncalled for ...
Ad is very outdated ..

You have at long last got the commercial world kevin , plant a turnip ..perfect .
-
Be interesting to see some of the learned, experienced responses.
There's a couple of points that might help a detailed response.
Who condemned the trees? Was there an application to local authority for removal of TPO'd trees? Did the response to the application approve removal and direct that replacements were required? Did it specify what the replacement should be - age, species etc and did it detail anytime frame on actively nurturing and protecting the replacement?
Those are some of the questions if ask before venturing a response, there may be other practical / legal points others might ask
Watching with interest!
Kevin , there was no response to this posting which was why i responded in the first place . I will find out tomorrow what fines are in place over here . I think the questions you raise are irrelavant tbh , in the commercial world and the real world just make sure something else gets planted ..

Alot of forethought has went into that . Good anchor point for the massive dead wood removal
-
So its purely a monetary decision , no advice to client whatsoever ?
-
Insulting not to replant imo . Here in Austria its taken seriously with hefty fines .
-
Take it there was not many growth points left ?

One of the best examples is in the car park at Maryculter House hotel , Aberdeen . Its an ancient tree in a very historical site well worth a visit .

I'm just along the road from you in Vienna Spent my summer holiday touring about Croatia and Sarajevo both very interesting and beautiful places .

started commercial full time climbing ( big trees not uk trees ) at 43 , go for it mate ..

Well said MesterH

I wear a good luck charm , detest climbing without it now

If you dont pre-tension it there will definetely be slack in the system . It hanging like an old washing line is equally wrong and aesthetically looks terrible .
-
If you have the first splice to tight around the tree there is no way of tensioning the system up . Sounds if that part has been done correctly but impossible to say without photo . 99.9% of the cobra-ing i see is too slack

There is no chance of climbing out on to the tips of a long , skinny and extremely fragile Ailanthus unless you have some sort of deathwish . Powered pole pruner in a tree > stupid ...
-
Just a guy collecting a bit of firewood , no problem
-
Totally job dependant . It just makes sense to have the right tool for the right job . The amount of work saved reducing something like a massive poplar if you can get a mewp in is monumental . Be crazy not to imo .
-
Still gives me nightmares doing a large beechstump , not recommended really
-
Never seen a Zubat break . We use them extensively every day and no problems at all . The Zubat has a much more powerfull cutting action which is a must if your cutting larger limbs . Unless your a glutten for punishment or doing small trees i would stick with the Zubat at all costs

Never to be used on its own , but great for smoothing out a descent when the friction hitch is biting hard into the rope if you have switched over to single line. Also good if your rope gets a good soaking when working in the tree to smooth out jumpy hitches .
