No difference. They will just crack/split/bend as they dry.

Hi all, I have been selling firewood for a year or two now and previously marketed my products by ads in shops, ebay/gumtree etc and flyers thru letterboxes. However, i'm moving into hardwood now and was thinking of using a more direct approach ie visiting potential clients such as pubs. What experience do people have of this and can you share any tips / is it an effective method? Thanks Phil

Personally, i'd say it's too big (length-wise). Also, it isn't steep enough so the logs won't roll onto the end easily. I would make the angle around 20-30 degrees wheras at the mo it looke more like 10 or 15. The problem with having a long table aswell is if the logs get stuck (likely due to the relaxed angle) you'll have to poke them with the telehandler and that is fraught with danger! I would chop it in half and make it steeper, then you've got something more usable.

Hard to say because prices vary region by region but I would go for around £20-25 per cubic metre.

Take the money. At least then you've got something to show for it. If you want to shoot your mouth off afterwards, go ahead, no-one's listening anyway. If you don't take the money - you end up with nothing. You can always go back and ask for more...

Yea I second that. I've worked in a few sawmills and after buying a vertical logsplitter, the best method is dropping 3/4m lengths onto a deck (don't bother with the hydraulic ones) and banging them through a processor from there into some sort of container/bag which you can then stack to season.

a builders bag of seasoned hardwood is £30 in llanelli, which is about the same as near me.

I would guess softwood is cheaper in South Wales because there is a lot of forestry there. (also there is a lot of coal, which may bring the price down).
