  1. Not just Bartletts many others as well.

Being aaac doesn't actually mean anything, in the scheme of things it is very affordable to us to be part of the aaac scheme and the support and help they offer makes it worth it. For us.

I do get frustrated by it though, and when quoting it's not a selling point and I never make mention of the fact we are aaac approved as it really means nothing to the client imo, to say aaac contractors offer a higher quality service to industry approved code of practice is nonsense there are many companies who operate in our area who are not aaac approved who work to equally high standard to us and often cheaper.

For us and commercial clients having chas or similar is more of a selling point, the ability to produce good quality RAMS also makes the difference, having CSCS is not this has been waived for us on many sites as we currently do not have it.

I am looking at getting the core team through the "relevant" (I say relevant as some of us do have CSCS cards but they are just labourer cards) going for ROLO CSCS will cost us probably £700 per man with 8 to put through this, which is a bit of a burden but going forward for us it may help.

700 a man I have got CSCS white card and gold supervisor liss card. I think it cost me under 250. But rarely do I get asked for my supervisor card- waste of time going for the extra test. Does pee me off when you go the EXTRA mile to do things by the book and then another company without can do the same job. I want to turn up and get a slap on the back for being such a good chap.

  2. Yeah traffic management is pretty crap especially if your on a stop go board. I have seen some road works that were managed with stop and go. One end a larger chap was sat in the van with a stop and go board sat in the top of a cone. He was using a stick to poke it round from one way to the other. I think if the fella was using any less effort he would have to give up breathing. But made me chuckle all the same

  3. I have not read all the dribble thus far. I have seen a few documentaries regarding mosanto in America, evil evil company. Plenty of other companies punting the same product under different names which do the same job. I would be up for a ban. If we have to pay more for food then so be it, we have to look at alternatives. While these products are in use there is no push to develop. Anyway surely the organic growers are getting by without the aforementioned product.

Petrol and bleech are more dangerous and possibly have a bigger negative effect on peoples lives do you want to ban them as well ?

If you can, watch a documentary called food Inc. Interesting stuff.

I believe believe the government could be doing more to help reduce the use of petrol by perhaps improving public transport instead of just coining in on the revenue.

  5. Yep I know the op is looking for alternatives but I have been abusing one of the newer stihl 410 and it is faultless. Would not hesitate to buy another. Got some older fs400, obviously the older tuneable models, that have over 10 years of beasting and still going. Put it this way I mainly use the mulching blade and will quite often smash my may through 2-3 inch Thorn and other scrub with it- not great for the machine

  6. My friend has a 2013 ranger 2.2 limited, real nice truck all the bells and whistles. His wife filled it up with diesel and then it wouldn't start. Another friend just happened to be there and suspected a naff battery as it was turning over real slow. Tried jump leads- no good.

In the end it was left up to the AA to sort.

After contacting him later in the evening to see if it had been sorted he told me it had seized- a common problem with the engine apparently.

I think it is on 70k and that is mostly motorway miles.

New engine been quoted 8-9k for a replacement so that would be the truck written off!

    Anyone else heard of this??

It has had an easy life no towing just had a kayak on the roof from time to time.
