  1. Yeah nice, was trying to find some brass ones myself. Bit of gold paint on the red ones might have to do.
  2. Really enjoying this thread as making one myself. Trying to find some Gucci fixings rather than taking the red ones out of my old silky. Have you found any?
  3. Hi Mark is he interested in standing crop?
  4. Some advice please gentlemen and ladies, A client has asked me to provide some replanting advice for some TPO trees that someone has cut down in there area that their parish council are furious about and rightly so. Some ideas to match their spec would be a great help? i have copied some of the email below. Seasons greetings. "Ideally they should grow quickly, but the land there is shingle, and therefore probably difficult to grow most trees, as well as being windy, as well as salt water getting through to the subsoil here. . The trees that were cut down were monterey cypress trees, which provided good screening to the neighbours. I have also heard that Ridgeway Pines might be suitable." Many thanks

Time to replace my stolen Stihl 362!! Do i move over to the dark side? If so what is the equivalent Husky? I have not one clue about them always been a Stihl man!
  6. Today we were on a nice little job but it was ruined by someone walking onto site picking up the 362 and walking off with it! Really annoying as we are just getting started on our own filling in the gaps around our contracting work(which have become bigger). Must have been an opportunist as the left the scabbard!! We were no more than 10 m away from it at the time and back and fourth!! Cant believe the front of it! We were working in the Mongeham area near Deal Kent so watch out other tree surgeons and let me know if you get offered a relatively new looking 362!!
  7. As we all get from time to time as soon as people know we are arborists i was contacted by a friend from London asking me if the quote his friend had got was a rip off or not?? Well i can see the tree, health, surroundings, drag etc etc But i also don't want to see his mate on watchdog next series!! So heres the question to save me driving to London can anyone recommend a trustworthy firm and contact details in the Tooting Bec area of London, Cheers Fellas, Hope your all enjoying the "Summer"
  8. I have been climbing on my poison hi vi now since November using a michoacan hitch and have been loving it. However, yesterday I descended out of a 20metre oak nearly using the hole rope and came across what felt like a complete core failure about 3metres from the splice I never use. Sort advice from some more experienced colleagues and they both thought the rope had failed. So on contacting the sellers of the rope I was told it could be the rope milking and to cut the offending piece off...??? Aside from the fact that that is rope that I have payed for and it is all but new so reluctant to butcher it, it seems that they almost expected it with the hi vi if it was double spliced! Then why sell it as such? My main point is is the rope safe? I have lost my confidence in it because of this, I mean I don't really want to be finding this anywhere else but the end I rarely use, if you know what I mean? Has anyone else experienced this, is it ' normal' I.e. just the new composition of a new rope ( my colleagues are used to 16 mm old style rope) . I have been assured I have nothing to worry about ( on the phone) however what's the forum for if I can't set my mind at rest? Advice and criticism welcome.
  9. Brilliant boots. Same news about the metal plate! Pretty useless for most work. You'll have a stiff few days then wonder how you ever did without them. Tip.. Don't do the top half up too tight.
  10. Just a short write up on the new boots. Recieved the new Scafell boots from jonesie's last weekend and have been useing them all week. After a very rigid first couple of days they are now extremely comfortable and hard wearing. I was doing the upper section of the laces up far too tight and since i have altered this they are even better. With all the controversy about the colour i actually think they look good but even better now with a weeks work on them. very good sole for climbing and i have got on with them really well in the trees, the slightly extended heel block is fantastic for holding the rear velcro strap of my spikes in place, somthing i have had a problem with previously. Obviously the garentee is fantastic but i cant see these boots needing to use it. ( prehaps a bold statement after a week) To sum up i would highly recommend them i think they are a great boot and so far cant fault them.
