  2. No. I've never been on Fonthill Estate. They are our neighbours. I help with the farm work here and do the logs as my own thing.
  3. That used to be the case. I have reluctantly had to buy in Ash and Sycamore the past few years to keep the tonnage up. My preference is Beech. Any time your passing though, you're more than welcome to pop in for a coffee. (Or a beer, depending on what time it is)
  4. Yes. But only a mile on the other side of the road next to my house. Far more convenient!
  5. We have a Woodran logdeck which feeds a Hakki PIlke 1X42, through a Palax cleaner and into a Packfix Duo. Ed
  6. Hello Tom, I used to run a 1X42 Greenspeed. By the sounds of things you have two issues. If I could start with the second: the ram activates with the foot pedal, but with little power or speed, and then returns as usual. If you open the main cover at the back where you can access the three phase motor and all the hydraulics, fairly high up there is a gold/brass coloured block which is the two speed valve. In that block there is a small non return valve screwed into one of the galleries. It has six small holes drilled in it and looks like a pepper pot. Ring M. Large (028 9034 2838), ask for Alan and ask about the pepper pot. He will put you right straight away. It is a common problem and can be fixed for less than £10.00. While you're with him, ask him about the other issue. I had the same problem, spoke to Alan and he put the part in the post and all was fine. ( After fitting, clearly.) The 1X42 Greenspeed is going back a bit so I am a bit fuzzy about what the problem was. I think it was just a valve on the end of the same block, afore mentioned, with a horseshoe type fitting going into a ball. Either way both problems are very minor, relatively cheap and simple to fix, although incredibly frustrating! I hope this helps. Ed
  7. Hello Steve. I don't have time to collect, but if you're passing I could take some.
  8. Mickey10, If you have a sawdust blower, I would suggest you will be fine. Ed
  9. Mikey10 I run a 1X42 combi. Last year we did 1000 tonnes. Electricity bill=650 pounds. A's point about the electric motor position is valid. Ours is raised on a platform to reduce regular clearing of sawdust. Ed
  10. Steve, If you are driving along the A303 through Chicklade give me a call. I have some Poplar. We can cut a length for you and you can try it. Ed
  11. Sam, I think that if you open the main cover (behind the intake conveyor), you find all the main hydraulic pipes and valves etc. Fairly high up, there is a block, gold or brass in colour that supplies the oil to the splitting ram. It also has a couple blanked off. In one of these connections with the pipes, there is a round piece with about six smaller holes and this comes out of the fitting. This is spring loaded and if it is stuck or sticks it only allows the splitter to split at full force and very slowly. Either replace it at a cost of about £8.00 or just play with it until it seems free. I seem to remember this happening to mine but it was a long time ago. Equally, I might be confusing the 1X37 with the 1X42, but they might work on the same principal. I hope this helps. Ed
  12. Woodworm, It has been a few years since I had a 1X37. However, from memory, I think I had the same problem. There is a stop plate with a piece of flat welded to it when the saw head is in its high position. After time the piece of flat wears and the bar therefore rises too high and touches with the oil tank whilst running. I think I just reconditioned the stop to prevent the chain from making contact with the oil tank. Take a look at the under side of the oil tank. If it has shiny scratches then look at the stop plate and repair if necessary. Ed

  14. We use a Matbro with a modified jappa grab enabling us to pick up 3mt lengths of cracked timber. The rack holds about 90 lengths of cracked timber which produces about 15 CuMt of split logs. I think this picture is what Logbuster was trying to show you.
