1. Hi fellow, feller members. How would attendees, at least members of AT feel about name tags for this event? This show may be the only trade show I have ever attended that does not offer name tags. The last time I attended this show I was able to recognize some members from the last event, however a number of folks that did stop by though it would be a good idea. Any comments or suggestions would be helpful. I believe it would help promote AT in a simple and positive way. I can even prepare these tags in advance and have them available for pick up by simply stopping by FR Jones & Son's tent.

  2. Agreed. I find it annoying that everyone goes straight for the tree being at fault. In all honesty when those trees were planted I doubt there was any block paving down.

So the way I see it the tree was there first. Yes it's annoying having to find a solution rather than take the tree down and move on. But as Stephen said gravel is an option and a long term solution. It shouldn't have an impact on the roots to much as what was previously there would weight near the same.

The tree could not possibly be at fault:confused1:. The landscape architect and or designer is completely responsible. The zoning or code for tree requirements based on what ever formula needs to be on a case by case basis.

This holds true on either side of the Atlantic.

  3. Back pack or hand held sprayer, pre and post emergent herbicide based on what your attempting to kill and control, mulch after control has been achieved and pre emergent there after. That simple.

  4. The root system of most trees as a general rule is 3 times the size of the canopy. Planting trees near or under existing paver blocks or concrete drives is just asking for trouble. Simple solution is don't plant trees near paver block or concrete drives or sidewalk. Sadly the picture of the customers property is classic poor placement of trees with no consideration of future growth habits and damage yet to come.

I would suggest removal of the trees and relaying of the paver block. Otherwise the problem will get worse. I hope the owner does not have a cracked foundation from the trees as well.

  5. I like Mike Roe, his Dirty Jobs Series TV series here in the US. I understand Mikes frustration and need to create such a video to help people willing to learn and earn from their own given talents. I think the perception presented by Mike needs to be taken into context especially if one lived and worked here in the US.

There are tens of millions of people in the US that have become so dependent on the state for nearly everything for the last 40 years their own perception regarding self worth is just like a reality based TV show, basically fake. When reality actually does come a calling the inability of these people to cope and deal with the truth is astounding. Sadly these same people choose to sue in court if they do not get their way or worst yet burn and loot their neighborhoods and towns and cities, only to have the government come in and apologize for everything that has happened and rebuild it all over again. Just in time for the process to repeat it's self all over again.

  6. Have u looked into Australia or NZ? The dollar may be a bit easier on u than the £.

    Good luck too u anyway

The AUD and NZD would be easier, slightly. Compare the exchange rate of all the currencies and you will discover limited buying power compared to the chilian Peso.

  7. Have you tried to contact the ISA on line for other companies or schools in Central or South America?. I truly admire your desire to better yourself. There are also literally hundreds of schools in North America as well. You may also want to contact the TCIA for assistance with your objectives. If you decide to travel to the UK and take up schooling I believe you will have many choices for formal schooling and training. Just remember the cost will be rather expensive when comparing the exchange rate between the £ and the Peso.

  8. So the onslaught of Sudden Oak Death here in California's wiped out Coastal Live Oaks locally on a massive scale, leaving poor rural area residents who own many acres with a huge fire hazard potential.

However the state of CA has initiated a program that allows the homeowners to have any staged debris/limbs/brush to be chipped up for free by participating tree services, usually a two man chiptruck crew.

This enlightened approach to fire hazard mitigation has been very beneficial to very many of my clients in the past few years. It allows them to realize substantial savings by having me safely rig down their huge oaks, stage the brush, and walk away.

However just the staging of that brush has reopened my eyes to just how valuable each crew member truly is, particularly the brush draggers who know how to stage brush in an optimum configuration for chipping, even if the tree's big enough to require fifty square yards!

Summer's begun, and I'm taking great satisfaction from earning my keep by giving my clients true value for their money.

Takes a gallon of water a day to stay hydrated staging that brush!

Makes the beer taste better at the end of the day for sure!

Here's to hard working groundies everywhere lads!

Your thread may be the first pro active attempt of the state of CA to actually use state tax payer funds towards a good use. All tax payers from the state of CA. benefit from this type of work. I only hope that most of the home owners will not allow this type of hazard to occure for future generations by planting and maintaing better types of trees for their properties.:thumbup1:

  9. Hello,

New to the forums so a big HELLO to all you arb guys and gals out there.

I've been climbing 4 years got all my usual tickets, confident in a bucket, rigging, big/small trees, spiking etc...

I've been looking at the possibility of moving to Canada but not sure how to get there as i'm over the threshold for the holiday working visa so would need a bigger company who can get a Labour Market Impact Assessment.

I've emailed a couple of companies such as Bartletts and i think davey trees.

If anyone knows anywhere else could you give me some pointers.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Cheers

    Chopp

I would recommend contacting the ISA to see if anyone is hiring in Canada.

Better make sure you have at least 1 years salary saved before you make this trip/decision. The cost of goods and services may appear cheap once you arrive, however once your own Pounds run low you will have a better understanding of how poorly the Canadian Dollar is compared to the Pound or even the USD.

  10. A guy we have been working for has lost about 3 stone since we last saw him. He is looking pretty slick.

We though he was training for an event but it turns out it is all due to Herbal life. I had never heard of it but turns out to be quite a big company. Think it is a bit on the expensive side but for a quick meal and the right vitamins etc, it may help.

This company along with many other similar weight loss programs require the end user to be dedicated to using their products and methods period.

The key IMHO if your already over weight is to determine why and what to only eat going forward. I did just that 17 months ago and when I started I weighed 225 Lbs and need to loose this fat for good. I lost 40 Lbs in 40 days by having my dietary requirement calculated by my doctor and his proprietary technology. I have managed my weight since the beginning to the present and for myself the system worked, continues to do so.

From a personal and professional standpoint I am very happy and feel better and more confident especially when I am demoing my products at trade shows and people see older videos of myself and notice the difference.

Presently at 185 Lbs and holding.

  11. Inspiring. People in general really steel them selfs short on many things, particularly when it comes to working out doors. Considering the stereotypes this person has to deal with daily my hat is off to her. I hope her daughter appreciates how hard her mom works to support their family.

  12. On the same topic, how easy are they to dig out I have one to remove

Will it dig out ok, or is it best to stump grind it?

Take a power hedger to it and bag the debries. Digging out with a Square

Spade will make quick work of it. I have personally removed the same material four times the size with no problem. Just make sure there are no underground utilities in advance of any digging.
