  1. Hi Tom , I've just finsihed CS38 this week( Roll on 39!!).During the training we had a good harness selection to choose from and I tried them all.I ended up staying with the Petzl Sequoia SRT( Size 1) as did three of the 5 taking the course.I ended up buying my own and used it for the last two days ( Aerial/Pole Rescue).Back support is excellent and is easy to set up.Only niggle I have is the leg padding could be a little longer but I found spending a little adjusting lengths got it there.I'm not a big guy , 12 1/2 stone , the other lads were bigger and they didn't have any faults with it.But as said above , try as many as poss before you buy. Good luck with the course , you'll love it .
  2. Managed to make it there on Saturday.I tried to make it to all the stands even with three rugrats in tow .There was plenty there even to interest them , particularly the Gwyned Axemen , Birds of Prey and " the fella who had the REAL swords ". I was well impressed with the Greenmech stand , the bloke from Greenmech (forgotten his name:blushing:) went out of his way to show me the CS 100 , how it was built , all the components and a demonstration of what it can do.Hopefully I'll have enough readies by the Autumn .Wasn't all that impressed with Husqvarna or Oregon stands . I went there with intention and a few quid to buy a 346 silverside and a pair of Supercomfort Type A trousers. In both cases I was ignored in favour of more affluent well heeled looking buyers. In fact when I asked about Supercomforts the bloke looked at me like I asked him for his number and instead showed me some Waipouas type C's I bought some SIP Freedoms instead. No Stihl reresentation there which was odd Really enjoyed watching the ITCC finals.Amazed to find out the winner was a novice, class. Well done to the Irish Tree Care Association for organising it .I think there were a few guys over from the UK competing and as Technicians. Great show , well organised and hopefully will be able to visit for the two days in 2013.Shame it isn't every year.
  3. Cauterization Interesting
  4. The old one that's bleeding away isn't a problem as its on the opposite side from where they park. It's the ones that I'll have to do that might cause problems below.I haven't any pics but I should be back up there next week:thumbup1:
  5. The existing one is about 4" diameter Stephen.
  6. Thanks for the replies fellas. I've been asked by a friend to tidy up two Sequoias.Problem is they are within spitting distance of where he and his wife , visitors park their cars.I noticed that either he or someone else previously cut a branch about 3 metres up from the base.I think this was done more than a few years ago.Its on the reverse side of where they park but the bleeding is still profuse(I've been noticing it for the past 18 months). I'm trying to minimise any staining to cars parked below hence if theirs any sort of "poultice" that can be applied to minimise this and not harm the tree.I appreciate that it's the trees own and best way of healing. But looking at the cut I mentioned above and if I was to prune in November is it likely bleeding will resume in Spring ?
  7. Anyone have any experience on stopping or preventing the cut limb of a Sequoia from bleeding ?
  8. A friend of mine in Oz refers to it as the " Widowmaker" because of its propensity to drop limbs quite easily. They've lost a fair few cattle that have sheltered below them in foul weather:thumbdown:.From what I hear they grow over here very quickly because of the wetter climate compared to that in Oz.The seedpods they drop smell lovely but when they break down smell a lot like cat pee. I was paid in part on a landscaping job with a few loads that were dropped in October/November , 8 of them about 60-70 foot.I had cut them down to 4 and 6 foot lengths originally to transport and spent the last two days ringing them down to 4" to 6 " rings, lovely smell.Reason why is I saw some guys splitting some large rings from the same trees on site a few weeks after felling and boy was it tough going. They gave me a few for burning back then which I did a few weeks ago. They did burn , slowly but a good heat.Judging by the weight of yesterdays lot they wont be near seasoned for the coming winter but I'll be splitting them next week whilst they are still somewhat green. The bark peels away very easily aswell.Should have enough stocked up for the next few years:thumbup1:

Alex ,Yep , the only feedback I can find is on US or AU sites. Referred to as a " Magnum":001_rolleyes: Think I'll give it a miss. Thanks @ Windfall : I've got the smaller version of your " Farmboss" the 029.I used it for the past two days ringing some eucalyptus and was the first time I used it for any decent length of time. With a 3/8 FC on it it performed really well.Heavy though , wrists are aching today.
