Hello. I've got a hitch cart that I bought second hand last year. I'm interested to hear from anyone who has experience of using one. It seems very heavy on the shafts with the axle being mounted right at the back and the whole thing being very robustly constructed from steel. My understanding is that there should be little or no downward pressure onto the back of the horse when pulling a cart with shafts. There is some scope for moving the axle forward but I don't think that this will significantly change the point of balance. Any thoughts on this would are welcomed. Cheers. Tom.

We have a Lumbermate 2000 bandsaw that we use to mill a fair amount of larch cladding amongst other things. I get asked for shiplap and feather edged boarding from time to time but have not been set up to produce it. I believe that there are jigs available and I am looking to get a price for these. I would be interested to hear of any experiences or advice on how to best approach cutting these profiles with the fairly basic sawmill that we have. Thanks. Tom.

I have a Lumbermate 2000 that I use to mill a fair amount of waney and square edged larch cladding. I occasionally have enquiries about cutting feather edged boards but have not done any as the mill is not set up for it. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions for how to cost-effectively set up a jig for feather edge boarding please? I guess we would need to cut 12 foot boards to make it worthwhile. Thanks. I have a quantity of cherry logs available suitable for smoking. I'm not sure of the exact amount but my guess is around 10 tonnes. Some of the logs I plan to mill for timber with slab wood suitable for smoking and some will convert directly from round timber to smoking timber. I can prepare billets of 1m length and strap these into one cubic meter bundles or load loose billets into IBC cages for transport. I can also kiln dry if required and chip. I'm looking to replace and upgrade our sawmill next year and have been looking around at some options. We've got a perfectly good Lumbermate 2000 which has done us very well and for the money is an excellent machine. I would like to continue to scale up production, we mill a fair amount of larch as well as hardwoods from our own jobs and some that we buy in - quite a mixed bag but often large diameter butts. I want a significantly larger diameter log capacity (1m +) and electric/hydraulic log handling. We have a three phase electricity supply and don't need to the saw to be mobile. I saw the Trak Met bandsaws at the APF and recently went to see the importer in Herefordshire (thanks Pawel). I like the look of them and I'm thinking through which model would suit us best and am interested to hear from Trak Met bandsaw users. The TTP-600 Premum has the option to be set up to work with 1200mm logs and can take a band width up to 55mm on 600mm guide wheels (I think). The TTS-800 will also mill 1200mm log diameter and will take up 80 - 100mm bands on 900mm wheels. The motor size is 11 or 14kW on the smaller model and 22 or 30kW on the larger one. The beds are essentially the same on each. We have plenty of room in a suitable barn so the physical size difference is not an issue. What I'm trying to work out is whether, on balance, it would be an advantage to go for the larger saw with wider bands and bigger motor. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom.

We currently have stock of kiln-dried hardwood and softwood in IBC cages which I am willing to sell including the IBC cage if this is of interest to anyone. I have priced them for retail but ex-works at £110 for hardwood and £80 for softwood including VAT at 5% for domestic fuel. I'm happy to discuss wholesale or bulk pricing and can load in the yard. The IBC cages work well for us in the kiln and for general handling and storage and we would normally transfer into bulk or barrow bags. Best wishes. Tom.
