  1. I thought chicken in the woods wood be a lot yellower I'll have Taste and let u all know..... Hahahahahah
  2. Saw this is a PLP, got my ideas but wanted to hash it out....
  3. Sorry but anything other than a 5m rope with a prussic with a couple if crabs is Gucci. Eg a grillon, rope grab or the ce lanyard..... Dble or single fishy fingers as Steve said, it's referred to in many different ways. U tie it to tie a prussic or as a termination knot with something on the end. I'm not saying anything bad just that those are basic basic knots that any new climber should know before he takes on more challenging equipment. I mean I didn't burn the guy, just merely stated my thoughts.
  4. If you dont know your knots, why get a new shiny gucci bit of kit??? double fishermans all the way, but agree with comment above, if you dont know ur equipment and how to use it, should one be climbing??? Or try a running bowline backed up of course...
  5. Course it is possible, dependent on time and site conditions. How long does it take to setup a line over a low branch and ascend a few meters. Also we have big sturdy erm rafters??? cross beams??? not sure what there called but the wooden beams holding the roof up in a barn.... them thingymajigs... we have a line a friction saver set up for this exact reason. I'm always fidiling about with my stuff, seeing what works better and what doesnt. What about those medium sized trees? Do you tie the long and short together to get the perfect size cordage...... TOP BANTER!!! LOVE IT!!!
  6. Easy Mukka, I love it!!! had it for 2 weeks now and got the hang of it. Its abit weird at first (descending) but after a few climbs with it you'll get it squared away. Although i am now thinking of making it a floating SJ with the use of a mallion, webbing loop and some shrink wrap. (Andy Green thank you very much for the idea) I would start of with a skywalker or HC to get the hang of hand over hand climbing. (dunno, may be a good move) Also cambium savers.... teufelberger pulley saver | Arborist Reviews check this one out... I want it, its shiny!!! no but its a chokerd loop with a pulley for friction managment. Or a basic one would be the multisaver, its a basic ring to ring saver with an added ring for adjustment. With everything, try it low and slow and be comfortable before you use it in a work enviroment. Happy climbing pal
  7. Evening Jnoon, Cambium saver is a must (IMO), protects the vital part of the tree, the cambium and also will save your muscles untold stress. And will stop the build up or residue on your line. Mechanical devices such as the SpiderJack will stop your prussik from binding up as it uses only a cam within the device, no friction cord. Its swings and roundabouts when it comes to devices and ways to ascend. What works well on one tree might not on another. dito for person using it. I have a HC setup and SJ both on my harness. All backed up with a 2m split tail should something go really bad.... Hope this helps mukka
  8. Really???? do i have to say everything we all know?? with something new, low and slow. Seems like someone is teetering of flaming in the forums.
  9. When people are using the other end as a Work strop, do you let it fall everytime you have finished then pull it back up when needed again? or is connected up with a prussic the whole time? thats what I'm wondering, if its attached the whole time then you've got a massive loop to get it stuck on, around, between ETC.... And with safety in mind purely hypothetical, if one ever had to resuce a fellow with a said working system. If he had both ends installed and you wanted to lower him on his own system (nothing wrong with his rope or system) and then use his lanyard as a harness hang stopper. What happens when you get to the middle of the loop you have created. Also having been attacked by vicious and terrifying squirrels, I think I'll always have my tail on the deck... coz those squirrels are quick as. And having to untie a bowline then pull it through blah blah blah, by that time i'm squirrel dinner.
  10. Are we really going to draw the semantics of what I have said? Yes argument is unequivocal that why i used it. I think everyone else knew that by "my argument" was intended to define my view or my "set of reasons given with the aim of persuading others that an action or idea is right or wrong". As for training him, isnt that what we all do as Primary's? He watches and asks what I'm doing and why, I then tell him/show him. So is that not in a sense training on the job. I am looking for ADVICE and GUIDANCE from fellow professionals. Not a nit picking session. If i wanted that I would go see the ex. On the subject of VT, I have never used the VT due to that fact, always a ditell or swaybish, schwabisch, schawbish prussic. Low and slow... i will take a look at that thread. Maybe it'll give some different perspective. Johnny Walker, Please stop busting my balls , as you can see I have said I was wrong... I'm sure such a fine gent as yourself has NEVER got a tree wrong or thought it was something different.
  11. I wish you would listen to the tone of the thread. This is not me blaring on at him, its just the discussion factor and me using the term argue, this is meant as a focal point of the conversation and to wit my position is shown as a disagreement. Sounds like to me that you need to add constructive and relevant comments rather than leaving slightly sarcastic and unhelpful sentences. Just to add, after Jones' show hes now thinking of the floating hitch setup...
  12. I get that, but some techniques that have been taught have been discarded as newer and safer techniques have been introduced. I dont want my mate getting tennis elbow from using a prussik his whole climbing career. And you should change if what your changing to is less stress on ones body. therefore meaning more years on the tools less in the office and also increased productivity and ergonomic working practices. I have instilled in my mind from Andy @ Kingswood that a rope on the floor is a sure way of getting down. And i like the comment about a branch in the loop, as i have never needed to use both ends of a rope i didnt even think of that. Good point. I dont think splicing a working rope on both ends is practical, as how would you tell and correct milking of the rope??? ALL IMO
  13. I am having an ongoing conversation with my groundie/second climber with regards to using the end of his rope as a work positioning strop. My argument is that in the event of something bad happening he would want a direct line to the floor. I was always told to only use the back end of the rope if ur unsure of the tree and haven't been able to do a full VTA. And also to form a v system for longs days in the tree. His argument is that. That's the way he has been taught.... Also tried getting him on a HC but I think abit more Persuasion is needed....
  14. Cheers Burrell, maybe it was a sycy and I was hoping for something dif. Cheers for all the comments, thinking about it now I will In future take the peg n stubs off as the rib injurys don't sound to good. Hope everyone is having a good day...
  15. That was you Steve ay? Nice one for the eyes with parking, I was intending to get myself over to the axe throwing to introduce myself and say thanks for the shirts. Well, glad we met in an unbeknownst way.... Yeah, knew it was too good to be true. Early in the morning i hear D.....N.....0......5 please move your car.... so i crawled out my doss bag found some boots n off i went. Did anyone else have the essential arb/Forestry journal ladies comment on the red shirt? Perhaps she just didn't like red....
  16. It was an absolute blast.... Seeing a scantly dressed ladyboy climb on help for heros was too funny. Also, brilliant night on the Friday. Caught up with so many people and managed to put names to a lot of faces. Can't say I remember them all in the morning. Top top event, which can only get stinger and bigger with everyone's support. Cheers FR JONES AND KIMGSWOOD.
  17. The bottom most line (looks like a cut) is a mark to guide our base cut for the notch. The middle is the line and the top is the cut. I see wot u mean, but i think the camera has caught it at a weird angle. Is it bad practice to leave stubs? leave them so my main line has something to choke on if anything should happen.
  18. I'm gna guess Sycamore, coz of the mossy slimy horrible gunky stuff....
  19. Nope, that was the caravan park inhabiter builder etc as stated...
  20. Acer pseudoplatanus vs Acer campestre, My opinion the leaves were not fat and undefined as a Siccy, also the bark was quite flakey....
