What, no lunge Paul - or is that on the lunge thread already?
Congrats on the zigzag bye the way and to Chris for the generous gift - albeit a well earned one.

Hiya MAtt
Worth while day out then.
-
Look again teepeeat, there is a little something
bloody hell - thats my chances gone on the lottery for the next ten years
Missed that somehow
-
best get over there and have a look. I do have big ears!!!

yes looks like most are good for Feb. Hows about making a tentative arrangement for mid feb-ish so everybody can put it in their diaries.
good to have a convenient place for grub as well
Personally be happy with Martyn's suggested site

When they enter their machines before they can attempt a speed record they have to be signed off by the technicians...Every single one of the British bikes/cars passed and the experts said it was a testament to their expertese in Engineering:thumbup: Hey Teepeet, what ya gonna do with all those earplugs you won?
didnt realise I won anything, but I would have found earplugs useful at Bonneville flats
Interesting regarding the sheave at the bridge - a whole host of uses for something like that in the old management systems they had for water and the canals. All explanations lost in the mists of time no doubt, but then again I have been on the cider tonight
-
Hi Paul
Caught the tail end of the bike program - will have to catch the next instalment of them actually trying to ride them beasts
-
I prefer my Coleman
 party pooper

]I won sod all again [booooo] but being able to go home to my happy healthy children who don't need to depend on the Children's Trust [hurray!]' date=' well, that will do me just fine!
A fine charity Steve, pleased to support it, and grateful to not have to use it.[/[/b']B]
nothing here either, but agree with the rest. Definitely be buying some tickets again next year.
Well done to Steve and the sponsors and anybody else helping out in the background, as well as all the members for supporting a worthy cause.

from what I recall, it burns at a higher temperature to normal wood which begs the question as to whether most stoves will be able to cope with the high temperature??
-
-
interesting - have found 2 Peacocks in the woodpile as well
Quick google found this British Butterflies - A Photographic Guide by Steven Cheshire

Sounds like a plan - unfortunately will have to dip out on next weekend as will be away from sometime in the week till first week in Feb, so will hopefully make it for the second round.

Not sure what you mean by a log dolly (term gets applied to various devices). The things I'm thinking of are these:
Logrite - Logging Arch - Log Arch - Orion Heating, Essex - Wood Burning Stoves & Cookers
TCF also make them.
Alec
Interesting link Alec - like the idea of the ULTRA - Log arch combined with a trolley similar to the Stein arbor trolley which is popular on here. Might be worth looking into me thinks!!!

£6550 latest, best get my last tenner on to keep things moving
-
Hi Jon - dont know what we are paying off hand, but only need it for cooking as the 8kw stove does hot water and heating in a 3 bed house (soon to be 4 bed when I get some time to finish the extension)
Either way its going to be less than £250

£6020.00 - well done everybody. Almost 2 days to go, could 7000 be on the cards?
Think Steve's going to need a little holiday after this one
-
Agreed Muttley, although to be fair I think in Germany they do a bit more than just sweep the chimney, especially as there are a lot of technically involved appliances used which need an annual check.
Historically the sweeps were more important due to the number of fires and the lack of reliable fire services which we take for granted these days. It was a case of prevention being better than cure.
-
what Rich said Morten - guess you hadn't read the previous posts
On the money with your answer BTW
Glad to see sanity has returned in the harsh light of day Rich. Was it a full moon last night??
-
not relevant to the UK, but in Germany I believe it is a legal requirement to have your flue swept annually by a qualified sweep. If you dont have the cert. your insurance wont pay in event of problems
-
Morten, you're on your own here. Stepping in with a common sense answer like that at this stage of the game is open to all sorts of abuse.
Bed time me thinks
-
right all you techie types - move away from the petrol fumes before you regret it
-
in my defense Steve, I think it was an accurate comment, but will control myself next time
Some companies just get right up my nose. Mind you, following on from this thread I think I should go in and try some of Rich's tactics to wind them up. A lot more constructive perhaps if I have 5 minutes to waste

air source heat pumps pros and cons
in General chat
Posted
agree with catweasel.
From what I have heard the quoted COP's are a tad optimistic and the colder it gets the lower the COP.
As with most things, you get what you pay for, but slightly concerned by the 15000 price you mention - seems high, but obviously depends on what is included.
A load of people were ripped off with solar systems because of dodgy sales practices and people not doing their homework and suspect there is a lot of the same thing going on with air source heat pumps.
