  1. bit slow on the uptake it would seem, only just cottoned on to this post. checking out their website now. cheers!
  2. Hi Paddy just wondering if you or anyone you know requires anyone to do any forestry related work? [ideally in the north lakes]. Just got my MSc in Forest Mgmt at Newton Rigg and my CS30/31 and am looking for some work.

  3. Having recently completed my Msc in Forest Management I am looking for related work around Penrith, Cumbria. I am CS301+.2 certified and own saws and PPE. Looking for anything, I have experience in arboriculture and ground work however am interested in most aspects of forestry. Please get in touch if you have anything.
  4. ah thanks for the replies guys. as hamadryad said the bark has now [within the last few days] started to bud so I think it will recover. it would have been a terrible shame if it had finished it off and as a result needed to be taken out, its a great tree!
  5. Hi guys my neighbour had her London Plane tree pollarded 2-3 months ago. There are no signs of new growth anywhere on the tree. Its an old one, I don't know the DBH exactly but i would guess at just over a metre. I read that one shouldnt pollard mature or old trees, not sure whether thats nonsense or not. Any help or ideas? I fear the poor old thing may have suffered a lot!
  6. this sounds like fun, is the aim to just climb some big trees for fun? thats what i already do...
  7. shame that there are no jobs around, i guess at this early stage one has to be open to moving to wherever the jobs are!
  8. yeah thats what i mean mate, keeps the bills paid and you fed! i think we can all tell tall stories of dodgy work, its pub ammunition isnt it. never really knew hessle while in hull, think i went through it a couple of times. bit of a change of scenery for you!
  9. yeah i mean i dont think any qualification is completely useless, bar a few. stuff you do must keep you entertained and sustained well enough to not need to go for a different job with your bsc, which is good! your uni experience sounds pretty standard, sounds like my bsc [at hull]
  10. @lumberjack pad aha someone who's been to penrith! how was the uni life for you there? interesting how you say that the qualification hasnt aided you at all, i'm hoping that mine will pay off- if not, i do enjoy working with my hands! is your business running well or is it fairly difficult to sustain?
  11. @scottf- yeah thats good advice about the car, being in that part of the country will mean kinda crappy weather most of the time, might be pleasantly surprised though. youre bang on with your info about the MSc. the modules in mine will include forest pracice, silviculture, a GIS module, research skills and dissertation. we're also going on a tour of north america looking at the major forests which i am really looking forward to. I'm studying at penrith, the man to talk to is Dr Ian Convery [course leader].
  12. @scottf mate thats very encouraging. i am so pleased that i have my car for the coming year [though i cant afford to run it] as i know what you mean about waiting for buses in the rain in the dark etc! hopefully gonna be able to stay motivated. sounds quite hands on your job, i hope whatever i end up doing is similar in that way.
  13. yeah i figured i would ask the lecturers when i get there. Penrith also has ties with the fc and some other organisations so i'm hoping to use their links toward the end of the course in order to get a job! a qualification is a good thing to have for sure, shame mine is in geography!
  14. i spoke with a chap from the fc about a month ago who confirmed that the fc has put in a recruitment ban for at least the next year, so yeah, i dont think i'll be with them initially! private sector is the way to go, according to said guy. i'm also looking to go into something at management level, however to be honest i dont really mind what i do as long as i'm not stuck in an office all week...
  15. have you made sure that the fuel lines etc havent become bunged up?
  16. I'm about to start an MSc in Forest Ecosystem Management at Penrith Uni, and am considering where it may lead- so I was wondering about whether anyone here has done a similar degree or qualification, and what they are now doing?
