Well, it's been a while but I finally did it. Im running a makita UC3520 with an 8" dime tip bar c1 mount on a quarter pitch sprocket. The 1/4" sprocket for the 5012b fits the uc3520. The only extra things you'll need are a couple of m12 washers, no more than 2mm thick and at least 28mm od. 48 links on the chain oils well. The csprocket on the UC3551 is completely different so this will not work on it. There is information on how to convert the UC3551 out there but it looks like a complete faf. I'm running mine on a 12 quarter tip with 3/8 low profile chain which is fine. So, if you have a makita saw with the same shaped drive shaft end as the uc3520 (oval shape with two flats on the longest sides) i'd say the sprocket from the 5012b will fit. Happy quiet, yet under powered carving

Yeah thats right, plenty still pop up second hand. I was hoping I'd find an equivalent echo or husky saw (power output to weight ratio) but have had no joy. Hopefully the build quality on the 193 will be better.

The 150 vibrates horribly... Just like the echo 270wes... and those few cc's lost make the saws feel utterly gutless. Relativity is a fine thing. I've tried all those saws. The things those saws have going for them is build quality and weight.

Detailing setup wise, you dont get much better than a 192 with the smallest dime bar. The power output is great, the vibration damping is second to none and the small weight difference between the 192 and say the 170 makes a HUGE difference.

I got one of those for £33 on a vibrating 270wes. The sprocket didn't even come with lube...

Thanks for your replies. The stihls are a bit expensive for my liking and the makita conversions remain a bit too much of a mystery. If I ever suss it I'll be sure to post it up.

I don't have a saw yet. It definitely seems tricky to suss it out. I read somewhere that some of the stihls have 1/4 pitch sprockets to fit, and I've also read the opposite. Cheers

Dont forget you can fit spongy stuff to the handle. I've tried tennis racket handle tape which does help. I had a this great idea of using 15mm pipe lagging compressed and bound with some strong tape, which im sure would be great as long as you compress it enough to get the handle diameter down.

MS201 with the exhaust modified, fitted with 12" quarter tip carving bar. Bags of power and the reach for small to medium size carvings. A great all rounder.

With an 8" bar fitted it's a wicked detailing saw. The reach is a bit of a pisser, I guess it depends on the size of the job. A 10 inch bar could be a good compromise for this saw. It's a gutless but light saw. The shorter the bar the higher the cutting speed and hence better the finish.

Greetings everyone. I've been trawling through google trying to find an electric chainsaw that will take a cannon bar on a 1/4 pitch sprocket. Does anyone know of such a thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated Ash
