  1. champion packed in half a lap into the test, thought it was a dud so tried another, that lasted nearly a lap. didnt try bosch. Denso iridium were very good. NGK was the best standard plug but get this. NGK iridium knocked a second off the lap times after we jetted down from a 165 main jet to a 152. popped the standard one back in and it ran very weak. only trouble with the Denso and NGK iridium was with a slow running engine on rolling starts, they would foul up then pack in completely. so if you fancy trying an iridium in a chainsaw then keep it at high revs we also did a lot of fuel testing and the best batch was ordinary unleaded from a well used outlet. if stored in plastic containers it was binned after just 2 weeks as it lost its performance. metal containers were ok for much longer. bp ultimate came out last in the test, shell optimax was the same as ordinary unleaded. aviation fuel gave no improved performance. shell optimax gave improved performance in the TKM engines that run with vegetable oils (castrol R etc)
  2. just to add to the oil testing we did. engines were stripped and all the synthetics did a good job, mineral however was never as good. one engine lasted just 20 minutes before it destroyed itself on a mineral oil, i cant remember which one it was though. the engines we tested were the rotax 125 kart engines with a maximum life of 50 hours but normal rebuilds were 15 hours. however, these engines were designed for fully synthetic oils running at 50:1 but the running in time of 20 minutes race pace we used a mix of 30:1. they used 30:1 in the hot countries all the time. i was told if a 2 stroke was designed for mineral oil then thats what it should use at its recommended mix, something to do with bearing tolerances etc. we also tested a range of spark plugs but thats another story
  3. damn! that means more patrolling plod, them camera's never bothered me on the bike
  4. i just use the husqvarna stuff. i have a load of fully synthetic left over from when i was kart racing, that stuff was £12 a litre but im not sure i can use it. by the way we tested a load of different 2 stroke oils. miller kartline came out top followed by silcolene pro2 and rock (all fully synthetics)
  5. i must remember not to follow traffic any more just incase i inhale something
  6. i dont know about yours but my saws are 2 strokes and i smell the burned oil all day
  7. some good advice in most of the above replies. keep it legal with informal letters stating that interest will accumulate. dont do any confrontations as that will just make them more stubborn to pay. good luck. if you dont get anywhere just call it a loss and put it down to experience.
  8. 70lbs, no wonder me and the bike went straight over it im ok now, it happened 9 weeks ago and i got away with concussion (helmet smashed), 2 broken ribs and 3 broken fingers. i had the full kit on as in my avatar so i was lucky really. the deer went on to hit a mercedes coming the other way so the place was a right mess. it was a mates bike i was testing, he was behind me on mine and i was only covered 3rd party so i had to give him one of my other bikes, at least it wasnt mine that got destroyed
  9. damn! i cant get away from them pesky deer. deer like eating suzuki's but its meal came at her at 90mph, unfortunately i was the 'pilot' ..... them thing are heavy the paramedic report said it was a roe deer, how much do them things weigh?
  10. welllllll. as i am a trucker some of my working week i tend to accumulate the odd container of truck oil every now and then. its a bit thicker then your standard motor oil. i have only used 1 litre of proper chain oil in 8 years and to be honest it seemed to do the same job. it still flings off etc etc its just a bit stickier. also used engine oil works fine for me, i dont handle it or drink the stuff so im sure i will be fine
  11. go online to autotrader and put your distance, requirements etc. there should be many on there. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/
  12. hi i joined yesterday and found this site via google whilst searching for saw details. i have been using various chainsaws over the years and i used to work in italy fixing the delicate things among other machinery like water pumps, strimmers, rotorvators and anything with an engine really. i used to tune 2 strokes years ago for myself and friends with good results, did some kart racing with good results building/tuning my own machinery. i once tuned and ported a flymo 2 stroke mower that i had. it had to have ballast to stop it taking off, the neighbours were not amused having grass blown into their garden i just dont get the time these days and its very difficult to fit an expansion chamber to a chainsaw im sure i dont have 'big mans' toys like most of you have but i have held on to a few. i have a husqvarna 50 which i picked up for £20 on ebay 8 years ago as a non runner. turned the choke mechanism the right way round, fitted a new piston ring and it and its been fine ever since. it has not even had a new plug. i have a light McCulloch 335 that i use up trees, i have had that for 8 years from new and it has never let me down, its an easy to work with saw. i have an old alpine that really has some guts but i dare not use it without a safety brake. when you rev it the thing points skywards i have another McCulloch that i never use as it has needed a new bar for the last 6 years, its about the size of the husky. to cut my concrete i have a stihl ts400, this cuts out when hot and needs a new coil i should imagine. does anyone know if there is a stihl saw equivalent to the ts400? soz for rabbiting on tony
