  1. It's a great feeling seeing your protégé doing well... Just don't be pee'd off when he gets better than you. Fair play to you both.

It is indeed . I hope he does get better than me and I'm sure he will . I really enjoy passing knowledge on and I'm always talking about the people who showed me the way .

  2. The magnificent Silky Rosegill (Volvariella bombycina)

images captured at the same time over a 24hr period at Hampstead Heath, north London.

Turkey oak stump that is also colonised by Fomes fomentarius and the Ganodermas of the resinaceum and applanatum flavours.

Wow now that's a beutiful piece of nature . Great pics David

  3. That's all I need, won't be doing a lot of work, Shame it screams tarmac scrap tree work 😁

Do you know anyone who could look at the mechanics and tell you if it's a good deal . That would save you a lot of money in the future for a small drink to your friend / relative .

There's a lot of very smart arb trucks being driven by rogue traders and the ones that aren't may be up to there necks in finance .

I think an old van that is cleaned regularly and loaded proply looks like a hard working chap with a head on his shoulders trying to make a living .

Ps nothing wrong with a nice new van but (when budget allows )

  4. I realise it will make you busier. If you are going to buy a home to live in do it before you become self employed. We are having a right struggle to get a mortgage that's worthwhile.

I've been self employed 15 years, it counts for nothing in morgage terms.

I know what your saying I had the same with my first buisness . I enjoy renting now and don't think I will change .

  5. This is my uncles tree he was asking me about it today it does look nice and healthy but on closer inspection I noticed a crack that has emerged fairly high up on the stem .

I'm going to do some work on a large dead tree near it and I will go up and

See what's going on . It's very close to the house and weight is all at the front .ImageUploadedByArbtalk1467570911.286517.jpg.481814c57731a68b9112d83d32b5d030.jpg

I love the tree and would be gutted if it had to go .

  6. Working evenings and weekends is what I have done and literally yesterday gone on my own. One issue I found is that this gives you very little time to do your own work unless you are superman so be careful how you advertise, I took the view it's better to never get a call from a potential customer than to turn one away. Electronic/social media stuff takes some time to kick in mine has just started to pay dividends but local rags can bring in loads of work which is where I found myself run ragged! A few good mates to subbie to is a nice safety net, one which I've been careful to craft.

Congratulations mate it's a great feeling this is my second time and last its do or die for me .

I totally agree about the weekend work I'm keeping myself busy through word of mouth friends family etc and subcontracting . Buisness cards for me are just a nice way of exchanging details and building the dream . Same goes for the clothing .

  7. Good luck! How much where your personalised clothes if you don't mind me asking?

I haven't got the full quote yet wes but it was expensive .

I'm happy to pay the price for quality . The items are the same as on abourwear website I think £45 for the single thick crew and £19 for the tec polo .

    £30 for the logo

  8. I was talking to a guy in Ernest Does and he said I could do a try before I buy and all I have to do is tell him what I think after I drop it back . That's not on the little one obviously as it has been recalled .

  9. Why don't you just set up another team with your current employer - then really grow the business? Surely you will be in competition otherwise, unless you are moving away which i assume you aren't as you are planning to sub to him. Then you will have his [hopefully good] reputation to build from rather than basically from scratch.

I'm moving to Norfolk but travelling between there and Essex to work .

I'm only going to be doing smaller stuff myself and subcontracting for a few different guys that I already have been helping for the last 10 years . I won't be in competition as he is mainly commercial and will be domestic .

I'm after steady growth and keeping the buisness small .
