  1. Yes and no! We've a problem with nettles in our garden and as it was a conifer I took down, the ground is just completely bare under where the tree was. I figures a deck would hide the stump, hide the bare earth and hopefully suppress the nettles. It did cost me all of about £3 in screws to put in as well!
  2. I tried to thank him with a stack of fencing for his croft, but he said he believed in karma and was happy to help. Top bloke! So left the guys on the frame saw this morning and in 3 hours they got 30 logs through it. Great quality of cut and no issues. That is about 200 odd boards at 160x25x3800 with 30-50 boards to be edged to 80mm. Happy with the performance, much quicker than the bandsaw mill and no issues with unevenly cut boards because the tension in the log is released all in one go.
  3. A very experienced electrician/woodworker with machine experience friend (who was as stumped as me) said that at least we all learnt something! I feel much more confident on three phase electrics now
  4. FIXED! Wooooooo! Many, many thanks to Steve (roys) for being the fresh pair of eyes on the machine. We did the full range of electrical tests again, nothing came up. In the end it came down to belt tension. The first thing I checked when it wasn't running right was the belt tension and it was the first thing I adjusted. I did tighten it a fair bit in the first instance, but clearly not enough. Many, many turns of the tensioning bolt later, it's roaring through the logs. It sounds bloody stupid to have missed it, but over half a dozen of us, mostly more qualified and more experienced with machines than me, didn't pick up on it. Nor did the factory. I just expected the belt tension to be somewhere in the ballpark of correct when it came from the factory. Either way, thanks again to Steve and we're on our way to getting through the 70 odd tonnes waiting to go through it. J
  5. The timber is fresh of the saw so is very very green. It will contract quite a bit as it dries.
  6. Well not really, it's only 10ft by 11ft, but I suppose it's all a matter of perspective! Had some reject western red cedar boards (not good enough for decking to sell due to waney edges on ends and underside) so knocked up a quick deck in the garden to hide a large tree stump. The beams underneath are 2x4 very slow growth European larch which were the outside boards of a very large beam. 2hrs 30 minutes to build, complete with a 20 minute table tennis break I think this finally settles the argument (Clive!) that western red cedar is superior to deodar/Lebanon! If anyone has decking they need, get in touch. Getting the Logosol four side planer back shortly so planing will go more quickly than on the other planer.
  7. Most of what you have said there is beyond my expertise, but I shall relay it to the more qualified people that are coming to look at it this week!
  8. It's definitely 400v. Higher motor power would not go amiss, but the Logosol frame saw runs more blades (20) on only 11kw, so this should have no issues on 10 blades with 15kw.
  9. I could, but the machine would be utterly useless on 3. It's on 10 at the moment and will be running on 15 shortly. I think it can only be the control gear, but diagnosing which bit is very tricky.
  10. It seems to be. The current reads about 50 amps for a second on star start up, then settles down to about 10 amps. There is then a 19 amp spike and it settles down at about 13 amps on delta with no load. I shall have a look tomorrow at the delta contactor to check.
  11. Ah OK. Not sure about that. The electronics aren't something I have the means to explore, on account of the instructions being in Polish, and electronics not being something I know much about. As far as I am aware, and from observing the current draw, I think that the starter is a simple star delta start. I have put about 20 logs through it, so it has on occasion been run for some time before another log is introduced. Of those 20 logs, only about 3 or 4 have gone through without it stalling at some point. J
  12. I'm not sure. The 15kw motor doesn't seem to struggle to start them, and the star phase was preset from the factory at just 3 seconds. We tried fiddling round with it from nothing to 30 seconds and it made no difference. The amp draw was good and consistent with what you would expect on start up - only goes downhill when wood is introduced to the blades. There is no binding of any significance to slow the blades either as there is next to no heat buildup in the blades.
  13. The flywheels are pretty massive. Probably 3-400 kg between the two (one on each side of the machine for each con rod). No way of removing the electronics I think. It's a fairly complicated box, when you open it up. Either way, it shouldn't be defective. The machine is only a month old, hasn't worked properly from the start and with the company having sold another 16 frame saws this year alone, there should be no issues.
  14. Any help would be appreciated. It's so far stumped about 8 people, but a new set of eyes might well come up with something! I'm just west of Edinburgh.
  15. It is running through star delta without any issues.
  16. I don't think that it is the motor either. We tested the resistance this morning and it was 0.08 ohms and equal across all terminals. The machine is set to run on 400v. We also ran the machine with the wires switched so that the motor ran in the opposite direction. No increase in power and the saw still stalled. The manufacturer have said that they will send out a new motor on Monday, but I do not think that this will resolve the issue. Electronics I suspect - to equate it to a real work situation, it's like a car stuck in limp home mode.
  17. We tried all combinations of phase swaps at the isolator for the supply for the machine. Only one sequence worked. All other sequences causes a little light within the main control box to blink at me on the phase control relay. We have photographed the connections on the motor and sent it to the manufacturer and they have said that it is correct. That being said, I do think that they orientate their phases differently on the continent as every machine I've had from them has required a phase to be switched around on the supply, which we had to do with this machine as well.
  18. Yes. We've measured the current and voltage just about every single way it's possible to measure them!
  19. The motor is running the correct way, as best I can tell. Switching the phases round to try to change the direction of rotation only results in a phase fault showing and no operation of the machine at all. That being said, the motor provides a steady RPM and with the fly wheel and conrod system on it, I don't think that it would make any difference to the machine if the motor spun the other way (assuming the power output was the same in both directions).
  20. Ammeter on the machine, testing the different phases. Amps measured at the point where the power comes into the machine and then at the motor as well. I do have a large generator in the yard for powering my sawmill, but it is largely unmoveable. I'm waiting to see what the company say about sending an engineer over, because I think there isn't much left that we haven't ruled out apart from faulty motor or electronic fault.
  21. I am confident that there isn't a supply issue. The electrical supply to the machine is brand new and professionally installed. No issue with voltage drop anywhere on the line or anywhere on the machine.
  22. Forgot to say the the supply is fine - we run an edger off the same board which has a 21 kw main motor and more powerful feed motors and that is fine.
  23. There is no voltage drop anywhere on the system. Well nothing outwith of tolerances - at every point the reading it just over 400v. Cabling is overspecced - we needed 2.5mm steel wire armour but put it 4mm to be safe. Thanks for the contact Mike - I shall get on the phone to them tomorrow. Thanks for all the other advice and help. I will try everything listed.
  24. It has been posed, and they are as stumped as us. I'm just trying every avenue in case someone has an epiphany.
