Hi all, can anyone identify this caterpillar which has scoffed all the foliage off one of my pear trees and has started on an apple tree now. Sorry the image isn't great, the creature is 2.5 cm, red/brown with yellow stripe on the back and red spots down both sides and a spike on the back. Also any ideas on protecting against them? Have you tried utilities firms? Not real tree work mostly I know, but it pays and they are always looking for staff between the different companies.
