Hello mate. Yeah winter here was savage. Sods law that the first decent days we get for tree work and we have all this going on. Family is good, had another edition in Jan turn up so that's cool. How's you? Been affected by the fires much? Family settled in Ok?

Similarly I have a tree to do today that was I.d'd as a hazard in a survey 2 years ago and the company that manages the grounds has only just got round to getting it done. It's a location where we can quite easily be distanced from everyone and as there is only 2 of us, we will be able to maintain the social distance recommended gap and get it done. I am going to postpone the private work I was doing tomorrow as it's in a garden and it will be a lot harder to follow the guidance. After today I think I'll wait to see how it all pans out. I expect Bojo will have another cunning plan for us by this evening.

Old iron fence post in the middle of an Ash stem. Had to cut around it, then cut it off with a hacksaw. I'd just put on a brand new chain when I hit it.

I've seen that video on there before. Think they trot it out whenever there is a tree surgery related story. I agree though, some overconfident (cocky?) practices going on and not appropriate in regards to the tragic story.

I actually know someone who cut themselves doing exactly what was described above. Except it was a fence, not a greenhouse. Though the incident was down to lack of experience imo, a more experienced climber would have either step cut a smaller piece to snap off or cut and held the piece. But I think that it shows that experience is the most important thing in judging what technique to use and when.

When I was working full time as a diver I heard loads of excuses for guys who wanted to get out of the water. The favourites are;"I have to get out, I've lost dexterity in my fingers!"? Or, "I have to get out, I've got vertigo..." One bloke didn't turn up at all one day cos his cat was poorly..

Went out to the alps last month for some rock/alpine climbing. Got away with carrying my rope and some Krabs in the hand luggage. That was with EasyJet, the hold luggage was 0.5kg under the limit but there's no weight limit for hand luggage. If need be tho book an extra bag in advance as its a lot cheaper than paying the excess at the airport.5kg's over at the airport = £45, booking extra luggage in advance £25.

Alright bud, would be looking for £60 to £70 a day depening on how long the day is. An as and when basis suits me as my main line of work is also like that. (I sub-contract as a diver). Some work came in this evening for next week so I'm now busy then, but if you can give me a bit of notice of when you need the help then I can usually make sure I'm free.
