  1. Hot seat? Just wrapping the rope around your backside? Or something more technical? I sometimes use a softlocked fig8 if I can be bothered. Not very often.

Near enough. Not wrapped round but run against your thigh/harris. I'd use the leg loop on your harness to stop getting a burn.

Do you mean just an 8 or an 8 with a hitch? Not great being on only an 8 if for any reason you need to let go of the rope.

  2. I blocked down a straight smooth oak stem today without any quick bail-out option, too fat for my rope-guide.

    Slack really.

I've got a fig 8 on the back of my harness, but that would take time to set up.

That's the beauty of the Ropewrench.

Running bowline flicked down the stem as you descend, choked when you're cutting, instant exit if required.

I was too idle to have it sent up.

Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

In that situation, depending on your injury, you could use a hot seat to get down in an emergency if you didn't have your wrench or an 8

  3. Its nothing to worry about, just automated hacking attempts. they have been going on for about 6 weeks now and only cracked 2 accounts as far as i can make out. Just make sure your password is a secure one.

Mines so secure I don't know what it is

  4. There is just over an acre of grassland within walking distance of where i live, i have being here just over 3 years and nothing has ever been done with it. I have the address of the current owner...worth asking if they would be willing to part with it

Could be in els/hls scheme, just because it looks like nothing is being done, doesn't mean it's not doing anything.

  5. Yeh I see that mate....not sure about ebay and rope ect. Hey Dan you got a pic? Hope your Alrite mate....I see the x rings u was making....looks sweet.

Doing alright cheers. Haven't got a picture without going out in the dark to find it. It's just a big isc ring spliced in the end. Great for various anchors without fiddling with knots.

  6. Just sent my entry form off and this is going to be my first comp. Can anyone who's been before tell me what to expect standard wise as always been put off entering comps before thinking it's going to be full of experts flying round the tree. Been climbing for 4 years now and done a fare bit of srt over the last 6 months.

You'll be in good stead for the comp, four years is plenty of experience. It's a very friendly atmosphere and we have entrants with much less experience that enter. The overall competition includes all disciplines, cutting, climbing (DdRT), mewp, pole climb etc. The SRT comp is run separately, with it's own prizes, as not everyone uses it.

It isn't solely aimed at SRT is it?

No. But it's worth doing the both the combined and SRT events of you've got experience with SRT

  7. Dropping a big ash today, forgot the top plate for the jack which made things a little interesting along with a gusty wind that decided to change direction mid way through the back cut trying to push it back towards the road.

Lovely grain and a lot sounder than the survey suggested!

Wedges stacked back to back will work if you forget your plate
